Losing the Singer Building sucked, but at least we still have the Whitehall Building. I've been a fan of it for a long time. I love it's unconventional beauty. That arch is wonderful.

It's definitely one-of-a-kind. The only thing that could top an apartment on the upper floors of the annex would be an apartment on the upper floors of the Singer Building. A man can dream

I actually like the original, smaller building better than the annex, though both are impressive either way. Both buildings, especially the taller annex, were truly the precursors for mid-20th century rectangular slab highrises.

I'm working on editing the hundreds of photos I took of the buildings interiors, and should have those posted this weekend. The unit I looked at was on the 29th floor, facing the Downtown Athletic Club. It had vaulted ceilings, oak parquet floors, plaster walls (most likely original), large living room and bedroom. The bathroom and kitchen were modern, and well-appointed. The interior common spaces are decorated in a period style, but do not appear to be original. Overall, it's a beautiful building inside, as much as it is outside. The best part was the asking price for that one bedroom unit, $3299

It would appear that both Whitehall buildings took significant flooding in their basements/lower levels during the course of the storm surge. They're actively pumping out the water, but I was told it might be "a couple of weeks" before they can allow residents to return. The lobbies of both buildings looked to be in pretty bad shape, but nothing that couldn't be repaired.

Unfortunately, the East River flooded the basement of my home, and my home office was lost, including my computer and the pictures I had taken of the building. I guess I can't be mad though, especially when so many others are still without power and running water. Or those people that lost their homes in Queens.
