Just saying hello to the construction hoist driver at Tiffani II.

Had the chance to do a walk through in the very early stages of finishing and over all it's looking good. There have been some changes on "how" things are done and a few specification changes but overall I think it will end up being a better build than Tiffani I (as is usually the case with multi-towers). The big thing with this building is the views are great. Unlike downtown-core buildings you have an unobstructed view in all directions except toward Phase I. As long as you can choke down the Vanier address you have surprisingly easy access to downtown and reasonable access to the Queensway.

Why would one need to choke down or stomach a "Vanier address"?

Now, now Uhuniau. You obviously don't share his perception of Vanier as a residential area (neither do I), but we both know where he is coming from and that many people in Ottawa share his bias. Let it go and move on already.

What I would love to see are some photos of the view looking west from the upper floors of one of the towers - it has to be terrific.

No. I don't think it's right that Vanier and other "historically" (i.e., past three or four decades) down-at-the-heels areas get a bum rap.

And I'll admit to being guilty myself; I was flabbergasted at the changes that happened, almost overnight, it seemed, in the area just west of the O-Train tracks, between Carling and Gladstone.

The same sort of thing is happening in other "bad parts of town" like Hintonburg, Vanier, and Overbrook. It's just that Westboro sucked up all the press.

Well, Westboro sucks in so many ways, but that's the subject for a different thread!

This morning. I think we can change this one to 'completed' now :p

I'm not a big fan. They look cheap.

They kind of remind me of CP 1 and 2 which says a lot.

Not surprising. They are by Claridge and done at the same time as CP1/2, right? Square Claridge Plaza.

Wasn't there supposed to be a third building here (old age home perhaps)? Has that been dropped or just on hold?

Ah, so Jim Watson does occasionally show his face in Vanier, even if it is just for a ceremonial sod-turning for a private-sector project with no City of Ottawa involvement.

Members of Council and the mayor turn up at grand openings and sod turnings every day in Ottawa and every other municipality you can think of... part of the job.

Sod-turnings for public-sector projects that your order of government had some hand in financing, facilitating, or approving, absolutely.

This... this is just small-town cheap.

I still take issue with this.

The crane is up. You can see it in the background of the Minto Beechwood webcam:

Can't find any renders of this addition or old age home.. Where is it going? Is it another tower or just a 3-4 story building?

Rendering on the Riverstone site, http://www.riverstoneretirement.ca/#. 9 storey above and one below, about 150 units. It's on Landry "between" the two condo buildings. You can see the vacant grass on google earth. No aerials yet!
