I Went Down to the Crossroads....Arts District Kansas City

The Crossroads district in Kansas City, Missouri is directly south of the Downtown Loop CBD and north of Crown Center/Union Station. It is home to more than 60 galleries, making it one of the 5 largest art districts in the US.

And in keeping with the theme of KC art, enjoy some appropriate thread music from one of my favorite KC bands, Capybara:

Could be KC's motto.

Couples pieces of advice....

1. watch your framing

Some of your shots were framed decent but some had serious clipping issues like clipping building corners and chopping people at appendages like the neck and ankles. Never clip people at appendages cause it looks odd.

2. Watch your focus

Some shots were good but a bit out of focus. Could be from you using a aperture that is too large or possibly from camera shake. Watch the in camera meter if you have one. If not the just work on getting a steady hand.

3. keep having fun.

This thread looks like it was fun to make. Real lively part of town. KC looks hot.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind I'm definitely no photographer (wouldn't even consider myself a hobbyist or amateur). I'm just having fun with a cheap, older camera I picked up at a garage sale. There don't seem to be any active KC photographers any more, so I'm trying to help fill the void. I didn't realize at the time I was having such issues with the camera shake. As the sun was setting, I had to go longer on the exposures and I guess I pushed it too far.

I get the impression that KC has come a long way in the past few years. Looks great and I love that arena, though I know that's not what this thread is about.

Cheers!

Having being down there quite a bit, I enjoy seeing that part of the city in the spotlight. Very diverse. Bluesfest must have been going on.

Yeah, definitely funky. Reminds me of oldschool me, lol.

I really liked this thread and think you have a nice style developing.

Some areas of this neighborhood reminded me of Williamsburg/Bushwick, Brooklyn. What a great, dense and colorful neighborhood in Kansas City. I'm impressed with the neighborhoods this city has to offer.

BTW, anyone who is passing through KC and wants to take pictures, give me a PM and I can give you a tour. Having lived here for 4 decades, I know this place like the back of my hand!!

Nice! Thanks for the tour? I especially like the shots down the alleys and the arena here that looks like distant mountains:

Thanks, but that's not the arena, it is actually the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. (symphony and opera halls).

KC has quite a few with four Walkscore walker's paradise hoods, including one in the top ten (and none of them are the Crossroads pictured here).
