While I do like some designs in Dubai, I'm saying without hesitation that it is the home to the largest selection of the most god-awful buildings on the planet. This, thankfully, doesn't fall into that section for me. Although I do not particularly like the design as a whole, it is intriguing and a very good step in the right direction. I think this is going to be one of the diamond in the roughs that ends up looking better than the renderings (provided they don't skimp on the finances, that is.)

A new video of this project. We can see that the newest version is bulkier than before, which was to be expected I suppose. Also it doesn't get as thin in the middle.

why is this thread still in the highrise proposal section? this thread should be switched to the highrise construction section, and the title should be changed to say that this tower is 501m, not 484m.

Senju - Updates

Hello Everyone,
Here are my updates for "Burj Al Alam".
First of all, it is *NOT* no hold. The design is finished and the construction has begun.

(1) Foundation construction
As you know, this supertall is 501meters. They need to dig down first before they build up. At this phase, the will be creating a very big hole about 5 stories deep down.

(2)Base Construction
This is the base that will be build in the deep hole.

Once the this phases are done, the building will start to rise. We still have several months before we see any heigth being built.

Issues
(1) The engineers for this building were fighting with Dubai government to get the proper "safe shelters". Like the Tapei101 and Burj Dubai, they wanted more special shelter floors to evalucation and emergency support areas. As I understand it, this is still on-going and not still fixed. Of Course the construction engineers want more safe shelters. We will have to wait and see how many and what floors will be these safe shelters. Note: because the design is fixed, they most likely not add floors or increase the height of the building but use existing design and select the floors for this purpose.

Good News: I have some friends that are also directly involved with the infrastructure of Burj Al Alam and I have already asked them to take pictures *INSIDE* the building during construction.

Anyway, it is not on hold and you should start to see a nice big hole being created soon!

Well that is good news. I happen to like this building. One of the best in Dubai I think as well as Emirates Park, Elite Residences, and the Index.

Wow, seems like in Dubai it's the opposite than here in the U.S. While the government asks for more shelters here, the engineers ask for more shelters over there.

Hope you're right. Looks like it will impact the skyline a lot and it's a nice tower so I can't wait for it to be built.

Anyways, on the second pic Malec posted the lake near this tower seems finished.

I wonder what started the rumour that it was on hold.
Delays happen all the time, especially with projects of this magnitude.

The plot doesn't look so big here but it's massive and really deep.

Should this not be in the construction thread?

^^ Don't think so. Not until they start piling anyway.
It's possible that construction will stall again once the digging is done.

Very elegant. Where the hell are all the people coming from that are going to fill these supertalls?
