UAB exploring the ideas of building a new Spain Rehab facility in back of the present building, a new IT building at the corner of 9th Avenue and 17th Street South, and moving the School of Humanities into the space of the old Business School over on 10th Avenue South and tearing down the old Humanities building also looking into building a new Ambulatory Clinic for UAB Highlands. All this is about a year or two away.

The tower crane is up for the student residence hall. I am thinking maybe a 2nd crane would be needed since there will be 4 parts to this building. A four story part connected to a six story part that will be connected to 2 eight story parts. And there will also be a dining facility.

Here are some shots of the new bike lanes that have been introduced to parts of UAB's campus. Gotta say, I'm impressed. It would be nice if the city could use this kind of design as it continues to reduce some one way streets from 4 lanes to two way 2 lane streets.

It's certainly beginning to look like the archetypal UA system campus, albeit with much more density and taller buildings.

UAB has hired former Ole Miss and Cincinnati basketball coach Andy Kennedy as its new men's basketball coach. UAB has had some great coaches in the past and this is probably the best hire since Mike Anderson.

I'm hoping upon hope that Kennedy will be similarly successful as Bill Clark has.

I'm getting tired of UAB not getting back to the same success that Gene Bartow's leadership help create. I know I shouldn't get ahead of myself, but Andy Kennedy is a pretty good hire for the Blazers.

Can't wait till next basketball season!

UAB has just received stage III permission from the UA Board of Trustees to start renovating the old Lyons-Harrison Research Building. They will be turning it into a Genomic Research Medicine and Data Information building at a cost of $70 million. They have already finished digging up 19th street and 7th avenue moving and replacing utility lines to the building.
