Atlas Hospitality lands $40M loan for planned FiDi hotel tower

Quote:
Atlas Hospitality secured a $40 million construction loan for its planned 128-key hotel tower in the Financial District.

Bank of America provided the funding for the 26-story project at 120-122 Water Street, Atlas announced Tuesday. The development, called the Hotel Indigo, is scheduled to open in 2020.

Atlas, a real estate firm that acquires and develops hotels, is working on the project with Fortuna Realty Group, which will manage the hotel. The property will include a restaurant on the ground floor and a double-deck rooftop with indoor and outdoor space.

Fortuna previously landed a $65 million construction loan from M&T Bank in 2016 for its 176-key Hotel Hendricks at 25 West 38th Street by Bryant Park. The firm is also developing a 330-key hotel at 1150 Sixth Avenue.

Atlas’ other projects include a luxury boutique hotel at 305 West 48th Street and the Staybridge Hotel on West 40th Street.

I really hope this isn't going to have a setback, it will make a ridiculous looking design look even worse.

This building is very likely to be a pile of garbage, as nearly all hotel towers are nowadays. Once a rendering confirms that likelihood, let’s let this thread die and put updates into n the high rise thread. Agreed?

Its still a development, and most of the time, designs aren't revealed right away. What if it happened to be stunning?

But I think IMO its good to show the good, the bad, and the horrendously ugly. While NYC might have a lot of gems rising, not everything is gorgous.

Kinda like when your at the club, and you see a 10, but next to her or him... is what the street calls a grenade. You know, a grenade! Someone that is maybe a 3 or a 4. Well, this project is a grenade, but is within proximity to some gems.

Now Tower 5th, that's a grenade that could tarnish the skyline. A tall, skinny grenade whos presence will be overshadowed by Stienway and especially Verre. Tall grenandes need love too ya know.

Renderings Reveal Futuristic Facade At Gene Kaufman-Designed Hotel Indigo, At 120 Water Street

Quote:
Construction is slow going at Hotel Indigo, which broke ground in 2017 and is still on the rise in Manhattan’s Financial District. However, new renderings from The Rinaldi Group reveal a hyper-modern, vibrant facade, a series of stacked outdoor areas for guests, and a yellow-bottomed venue space near the apex of the building.

The new Hotel Indigo is located at 120 Water Street and will eventually comprise 52,000 square feet. Designed by architect Gene Kaufman, the 28-story property will include 128 guestrooms, a cellar-level fitness center, a ground floor restaurant, and a 25th floor venue.

Atlas Development anticipates the property to open sometime in 2020. Fortuna Realty Group will serve as hotel management.

Just as the political media don't hide their contempt for Donald Trump but wear their opinion on their sleeves in news reporting, why doesn't anyone writing about architecture or real estate do the same for Gene Kaufman?

A much better version of this: "New renderings from The Rinaldi Group reveal a hyper-modern, vibrant facade, a series of stacked outdoor areas for guests, and a yellow-bottomed venue space near the apex of the building"...

... would be this: "New renderings from The Rinaldi Group reveal a clownish freak-show of a building - all but certain to be completed with bottom-shelf, cheap-as-it gets materials and construction quality. This will mark the 457th piece of Manhattan that has gotten crummier and crappier due to the criminal gang of Sam Chang and Gene Kaufman, literally the two worst influences on New York's built environment and quality of life the last 15 years."

I'd vote for that

Also the media treats DJT with contempt because he is contemptable. Yes, I wish the culture opinion would absolutely bury this hack and drive him out of town, but they should also give DOB holy hell for the codes that perpetuate this setback streetwall killing shit that not just GK but others are in many cases actually forced into even if its dreadful urban design. That does not cause GK to wrap these turds in Ronald McDonald's funhouse colors, nothing can explain that and why anyone ANYONE would sign off on and pay for it to actually be built when so mnay inspired architiectural firms are sitting there needing work. Is this GK connected to the concrete mob or somwthing?

^^^^^^

Hopefully Howard Hughes's 250 Water Street property turns out to be something nice. Water Street has seen some garbage lately rising.

6 Water Street comes to mind.

Bloody atrocious which finished December of 2017.

This is not architecture. This is K-Mart quality.

Water street as a whole is really abhorrent, some terrible kaufmans and some of the ugliest office stock in the city with terrible POPS. I think it'd be a great candidate for an upzoning tied into air rights that pay for the 2nd avenue subway. Between those and potentially seaport city development rights you could likely fund half of phase 4
