No why does the WFC appear skinnier than Jin Mao? at least it appears that way, or is it just the perspective??

Someone posted the width of the two buildings a few pages back and I think they were almost the exact same with SWFC being a tad wider.

The construction may accelerate as the tower gets thinner.

hey guys i have not been constantly following this one, so im sure this is old news but: is it just me or does anyone else like the old design with the circular hole more than the new one with the rectangular hole. when did they change the design and was there any particular reason why?

I believe it's because the old tower design with the circular opening looked a little too Japanese in design (the rising sun evident on the flag), and if you remember what the Empire of Japan did to China in the last century leading up to WWII........well let's just say it wasn't a good thing. The redesign incorporates a more Chinese approach. Well anyway, this is what I heard.

I also suspect technical considerations about the feasibility (or the cost) of the circular opening.

I thought I heard the change was due to costs associated with the circular opening. I liked the circular opening more. Emporis (those bastards) still have the designers saying costs and easier implementation.

Maybe there'll be a surprise design change for the top, only to be revealed in the construction itself.

The core is eye level with the Hyatt lobby at the 54th floor of the Jin Mao Tower

Man...this building is going to appear skinny. If you compare it to the height of Jin Mao knowing that it will be a fair bit taller. Sheesh...what an amazing building.

wow. just wow.

i love this supertall. i don't care if it's not the tallest, it's definitely going to be the sexiest tower for a long time.

and i may be a minority here, but i actually like the revised, trapezoidal opening much better than the circle. the circle was cool at first but then they muddled it up with the skybridge, and i think it would have looked a bit kitsche. also, i think the circle would have lessened the vertical impact of the tower. the trapezoidal opening "blends" better in my opinion.

but wow, the tower is going up super fast. congrats to shanghai.

I had no idea it was going to be a twin of Jin Mao...... a picture of the two together will be incredible when the WFC is finished.
