Keife & Co.

This is pretty sexy There's a lot of pictures, etc on their Facebook page, FYI

Quote:
John Keife, who recently opened the wine and liquor store Keife & Co., aims to have the best spirit selection in New Orleans. He figures that would also mean his CBD shop would have the best spirit selection in Louisiana and probably even the entire South.

The store opened August 1 and Keife is still building up the inventory in the sleek space with polished concrete floors and crystal chandeliers. Already, though, the impressive selection of obscure amaros, liqueurs and other cocktail ingredients would make any cocktail geek wish they had enough cash to buy one of every bottle on the shelves....

In case anyone was wondering Im not dead . Ive been out of town for a few weeks and will be out of town til at least monday. Will have some updates when I get back. Cheers guys! Dont forget to sign petitions in support of Elisio Lofts.

Coming Attractions The New Orleans Planning Commission approved a request to allow Kermit Ruffins to reopen the Mother-In-Law Lounge, restoring the Treme landmark and allowing for live music every night of the week. Ruffins put a lot of money into reopening the bar before getting caught up in rezoning purgatory, and he "wants to get some of my monies back" asap. He now awaits the go-ahead from City Council. Keife & Co. is awesome. We really need more businesses (or any retail, really) on that stretch of Howard.

So many of those buildings are really anti-urban and fortress-like, which creates a huge gulch between the Warehouse District and Uptown. The highway is another factor, but it would be so much better if Howard was active. I want that damn gas station to go up in a fiery plume of smoke. They can reopen on Simon Bolivar or something.

Lee Circle

There was an article about how Taylor Energy just bought the UNO building on Lee Circle from the UNO Foundation. I was under the impression that Taylor always owned it, but apparently they were just leasing it. That will give a big chunk of additional endowment funds to the UNO Foundation.

That aside, is there any reason why the OLD gas station on Lee Circle hasn't been bought and developed? You'd think Lee Circle would be a prime address but that damned thing has been vacant for years.... I assume they would have to clean up the old tanks, etc?

South Market

On South Market's Facebook page they just put new renderings of it up! I think it looks pretty good from what they are showing.

Sick. Reminds me of the newer infill in SoHo and TriBeCa. I don't think other cities are really building stuff like this, so it looks great.

Also... East Oak? I hope this means the actual West Elm is in talks.

I agree! I immediately thought of Soho when I saw this. It is much better than the Atlanta-like infill of the previous renderings. This is very exciting.

More South Market Renderings

So is this the corner of Rampart & Girod?

And is this O'Keefe & Girod? Looks like Entergy in background.

O'Keefe & Lafayette?

Yes, I love those renderings. I would love to see more of the northeastern style of infill around the city. I think it looks a lot better than the Houston-ish/Atlanta-ish buildings that have been popping up. I think those styles would work better in Metairie or somewhere.

It's no great mystery... You just have to be "dress conservatively" and restrict the architecture to a single material. Resist the urge to swap in areas of stucco, shingling, precast concrete, or metal.

These South Market buildings do have black metal sections, but they're designed to look like additions. The small panes on the windows also contribute to the industrial look, and the lack of balconies.

I also really like this white stucco look, which Sean Cummings is using for the shorter (east) building at Elisio. This is a cool one in London with a nice spacious feeling. I think this stuff is pretty appropriate for New Orleans if it was blended with porch/gallery systems.

I had that same thought! The look of that "Home & Design" sign looks like they're shooting for Crate & Barrel, too. Sure it's just aspirational but I like the mindset.

Can I ask a question for you? Is that office or apartment? I am not quite sure for which one is that. I think they will built new restaurant or shopping center.
