Bridget Shea was at a house right around the corner from mine and she was talking with several neighborhood people, I really wish I had known sooner and I would have shown up to ask her the tough questions nobody els there were probably asking.

Interesting development in that all council members voted in favor of the Apple business deal tonight. I think Tovo and Morrison knew that if they voted against it they would be seen as anti-job creators at a time while Austin may be fairing better than most other places, we still have a 6% unemployment rate.

This is great news! They also approved the Royal Blue Grocery patio extension along Congress Ave!

ALSO, the new Willie Nelson Statue is coming to 2nd street this weekend (or next week)

If this project is successful, and I believe it will be hugely successful, it will fundamentally change the way policy makers and old-school property owners think about cars vs. pedestrians, and that catering to the latter is the economic way of Austin's future.

I just think it is awesome that there is a grocery that actually tries to replace parking with something like that. I mean who would ever think that a grocery of all places would do anything that would reduce parking?

Austin among the 20 best in the recovery, so is Houston. DFW and McAllen in the second strongest 20. El paso in the next category down. San Antonio in the weakest 20.

I'm sure Ann Richard;s would be smiling. She was very involved in getting the laws changed to allow sidewalk cafes allowed in the first place 15 ( or more?) years ago! Slow but sure progress! LOL!

Well, its not like they did it just to eliminate parking. They did it to increase dine in business, much like a restaurant would.

These types of urban patios is definitely be a plus for Austin. I was thinking another good spot would be the 2 parking spaces in front of the Arthouse and Collozi's pizza shop.

Curiously, although that's what the map shows, the full listing at

http://www.brookings.edu/~/media/Fil...ery_2011q4.pdf

shows Austin, Houston, and DFW as all in the top 20.

That would be awesome to see but had no luck on youtube, anyways here is a 3d rendering of 3rd & Brazos apartment tower. It looks better than that cartoonist rendering in my opinion.

Yeah, that's better. I hope it's just called "3rd & Brazos" and not something fluffy like "Asswipe on Brazos".

Looks like the JW will be roughly the same height as 100 Congress with the tan crown thingi probably a bit higher.

There's been lots of sad faces at their original street-level design of this building for Congress Ave. Based on a presentation I saw today, their design team listened to that feedback and updated designs do a much better job of activating Congress - including a mid-block cafe and much more glass (rather than stucco or whatever opaque material they had originally planned for)
