I have no idea what these movies are about (they strike me as long-form toy commercials), but I have to say this is pretty darn cool.

Absolutely, plan on it! The scene mentioned in denizen467's post above will be filmed starting at 7:00 AM Sunday 7/11. They've rented the roof deck of the Lancaster to use as one of the camera locations. I'll post shots tomorrow afternoon. Should be interesting to see this in action.

Here are a few I took this afternoon at Washington and LaSalle. I'm demonstrating great restraint in only posting three. So many amazing sights there today!

Too bad the Transformer movies are some of the most insultingly shallow and artless Hollywood films of all time.

Birdmen scene for Transformers 3 filmed in Lakeshore East. In addition to renting the roof deck of the Lancaster, they also rented the roof of the Tides. A third camera crew was in a helicopter. I talked with a guy from Digital Domain, the company that's doing the digital special effects. He said Lakeshore East park will be digitally altered to appear as the bank of the Chicago River, where the "good guys" Birdmen land. He also said numerous filler buildings will be added (sounds like what was done for the Dark Knight). They'll also add a building to cover the Village Market Center construction site.

^ Really awesome telephoto shots!

--------------------

Question: Are these parts of the film actually set in Chicago? Or do we only get a dinky credit at the end of the film like with Dark Knight?

Thanks denizen.

I believe it is set in Chicago as yesterday during the filming at Washington & LaSalle, there were prop Chicago Police cars in the scene(s). Also all of the cars that were crashed/burned/crushed/blown-up were fitted with Illinois plates.

Just a few very minor noticings in the hood around Rush St.

The building next to Jilly's is being completely redone into a presentable retail structure. It used to have basement-mezzanine concept like some of the Oak St shops, but wasn't quite renting. It's all one floor now with high ceilings.

Level Nightclub had its doors wide open on Saturday morning with a ton of interior demo going on. Not sure what will become

It's a movie about talking cars that transform into giant robots. What did you expect?

Not to mention that they are movies made with childrens cartoons as the basis. Nobody's looking for art or taste in these movies, they're looking to relive their childhoods. That said, Transformers 2 sucked. Hard.

An Immodest Proposal for Hiding the Aon Center Antenna
Blair Kamin
Chicago Tribune, 7/12/10

"Remember that hideous antenna that went up on the Aon Center's roof last summer (below)? Well, it's still there, but some Chicago architects have figured out a way to camouflage it--a giant martini olive..."
