I happen to think his question is a valid one. This building, of course will bring attention, but will it bring the unwanted type?

I have found in somewhere in the net (can't remember where) that someone posted a "confirmed height" of Burj Dubai to be 860m or 2,820 ft. There were no sources for this height. So for the time being, let it be pure speculation. One of the Dubai officials, if you can recall, did say that BD will be "at least" 800m tall and has a foundation for a the structure to go to 950m.

So far the height will be 800m+. It is that "+" that is the mystery from here on. I'm not too sure about the 160 floors. I believe from their website showing elevator buttons going at least 189 floors, that BD will hit 200 floors. This many floors would be indicative of a building 800m+ (including spire).

I too am wondering about the elevators and how fast the express will be.

The hole is huge, but, surprisingly, not deep.

It's a little strange watching a mega-skyscraper go up in what looks to be the middle of nowhere.

Pataki and other promoters of the FT who promote it as the WTB must think "Damn..."

And holy shit the site is huge. You can put an average Downtown on there. And even with this width the tower will look skinny.

Dubai is a miracle.

The footprint looks surprisingly small indeed. Maybe it's just an impression...

I have been very skeptical of this project and assumed it wasn't going to happen, but I have changed my mind. From now on I am going to believe it is being built until I see evidence otherwise.

BD seems to be a lot further along then the Freedom Tower is. I guess Freedom Tower will never get to be the tallest even temporarily.

I am most impressed if the building will really have 180 + floors. It would be amazing that a new building would have almost twice as many floors as any other building ever built.

That looks like the entire footprint, if you look at the plans Aboveday posted. Look closely at the triangular section of rebar in the center. It matches the plans pretty closely. Also, notice the second concrete slab to the upper right. That looks like a slab for an ancillary building, so the "core" slab can't grow too much.

Personally, I think it looks pretty big. Picture the building going up that wide. It will be massive.

I remember a forumer not too long ago saying that the lake around BD had been dug and filled in already, but I don't see any water. The renderings show water pretty close to the structure.

Regardless, those are fantastic pics, and this will be exciting to watch!!

Small??? You got to be kidding! Take a real look at the photos how small the people are compared to the footprint. If you estimate the height of an average person to 1.80m the diameter of this footprint is probably close to 100m! which is one of the largest footprints of any skyscraper ever!

It probably just appears a bit smaller than it really is, because the construction site is incredible huge.
