People should remember that the marina is pretty much an island of towers on the edge of the city, like a suburb but not quite at the same time. It will never be like a downtown because it's not mixed use, people only live not work there. There are one or two office towers and of course more hotels but other than that everything is residential. However, if you live in the marina you can walk to the shop, go eat out, etc. The marina (not all parts but should be better in years to come) comes to life at certain times of day and year. In holidays the area in front of the jumeirah beach residence gets packed because the beach is also there.
In the future I recon some more plots will be built on, some greenery will be planted (there are certain spaces for that but not much) and shops will open depending on how much demand there is.
Yep. It's essentially the world's most awe-inspiring bedroom/resort community. Nothing more, nothing less. Various arguments aside, from a purely architectural standpoint its scale alone makes it quite a sight to behold.
