Garbage Incinerators of Tokyo

Over the past year or so, I've been on the slow and somewhat bizarre quest of attempting to draw all the incineration plants with chimneys over 100 m tall within the 23 wards of Tokyo. I don't appear to be moving quickly, as I have so far only managed to complete six out of a total of 19.

Here are the ones I've done, in the order I drew them. I've included the original sized drawings too.

Minato Incineration Plant:

Kita Incineration Plant:

Shibuya Incineration Plant:

Meguro Incineration Plant:

Toshima Incineration Plant:

Chuo Incineration Plant:

I'm planning to do the Shin-Koto Incineration Plant next.

I've always been interested in industrial plants as my city has a lot of them. The quality of your drawings is simply amazing. I wish I could do that well.

Very nice work, I'm surprised at all the details. Incineration is a dirty bussniess, it is banned in Canada for some time now.

Great diagrams, especially the first one. The Japanese sure know how to make industrial look inviting.

'Incineration is a dirty bussniess, it is banned in Canada for some time now.'

It is? I was understanding that Toronto wanted to build one up here?

By the numer of plants it seem like Tokys burns most or all of it garbge. Is this true? I am under the impression that in the U.S. trash incinerators are rare.

Good drawings by they way, is that an office component attached to the 4th one from the bottom?

There is limited space in Japan, so it must be a premium with the population density of the country, and all. It would make much more sense for them to have signficantly less landfills, thus more incinerators, than other larger countries.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Space is indeed at a premium, especially in Tokyo. And there's a lot of garbage, especially in Tokyo. They do seem to put some effort into making somewhat interesting designs on these things.

And the highrise section in that one incinerator contains offices of some sort, and I believe there's actually a cafe in it too.

I've finished the Shin-Koto Incineration Plant. This one took a pretty long time to complete because of all the details. Not sure which one I will do next.

The Toshima Incineration Plant is the one near Ikebukuro, right beside the tracks between Ikebukuro and Otsuka stations. It's the tallest incinerator in Japan.

I've finished the Nerima Incineration Plant. This is the only incineration plant in the 23 wards of Tokyo with a chimney supported by steel pylons. Due to restricted access around most incineration plants, and the heavy tree cover surrounding most suburban plants, I had to kind of flub a bit of the details around the edges.

Not exactly a garbage incinerator, but I it generates power anyway. The TEPCO Shinagawa Thermal Power Plant:

edit: I guess it looks kind of crummy against the forum background.

Wink Very nice

Very nice incinerators drawings. Keep doing. I like very much. Did you included those diagrams here in the city diagrams or you did just for fun?
It would be nicier included as diagrams here. Thanks for sharing.
