Do Not Book Any Trips With This Bus Company!!!

For those of you who live in New England or anywhere in the Tri-State area, please, do NOT book any trips with Fung Wah Bus Company!!

They are being investigated by the NTSB as having had too many unexplained and inexcusable accidents in the last year and a half or so. The most recent one has occured between New York City and Boston.

The bus was on it's way to Boston when the driver noticed that the vehicle began to vibrate somewhat on the highway. He pulled over, got out and found out that one of the rear tires on the right side - the outermost one, was missing!!

Further investigation had revealed that all of the lugnuts for that tire were either never put back on or were so loose that they just worked themselves off. No one was injured in that one.

This company has had several discrepancies with the NTSB to the point where they are now being constantly mointored by the board's officials and the federal gov't.

Last year, the company was cited for two or more bus fires that broke out while on the road carrying scores or passengers!

Oned such mishap also included a bus that rolled over on an exit ramp that requires a wide turn. The driver was going too fast on the ramp and the bus flipped over, lying on it's side like a drunken dinosaur!

Even though they are offering dirt-cheap tickets to travel to places like New York City, Hartford or even New Jersey, they are putting the safety of many passengers at risk because their crappy maintenance records and constant safety violations. Don't book any trips with them!

The cheap fares are still going to attract passengers. It's like RyanAir. Quite possibly the worst airline in Europe, in terms of safety, comfort, and customer service. Yet people still fly with them, because of the prices.

RyanAir is one of the largest airlines in Europe and hasn't had a single fatal accident to date.

And also, that's how it was with ValueJet (now Air Tran) and Tower Air. Remember them?

Both of them were offering dirt-cheap air fares to warm sunny destinations such as Florida, The Bahamas and elsewhere south, but their safety records hit the skids!!

Yeah, I think most people know that the Chinatown buses are cheap because the drivers don't necessarily have all the training that Greyhound drivers do, the buses are in poor condition, and a bit of risk is involved. There are infamous stories about the different companies fighting each other, sabotaging each other's buses, and threatening customers.

But when you wanna get to New York for $10, what are your other options? Life is all about taking risks.

I apologize. I should not have added safety. I was making a general statement on the airline. RyanAir only had one accident.
However it IS the worst airline in Europe. In term of customer satisfaction, price, and comfort.

I have not flown on Ryanair, but a friend did on a backpacking trip in Europe, and he regretted it. A 15 Euro flight that was supposed to last 2.5 hours ended up being a 24 hour trip, and costing him close to 200 Euros in extra hidden fees, and the hotel that he was forced to stay in after Ryanair diverted his flight, and stranded the passengers overnight, as the next flight was not available until the next morning. I did not believe it at first. Any airline can have an off day.

But I actually took an interest in Ryanair, and looked up SkyTrax for the airline.

That's true, RyanAir's service and their attitude to the customers suck badly. I've used quite a few different airlines in Europe and SE Asia and I've never experienced such a bad treatment

. I don't think I'd ever fly again with them.

I tried taking it from NYC to Philly once. Buying a ticket doesn't even guarantee you'll get on. The bus leaves from a garbage-soaked (think about that) sidewalk underneath the Manhattan Bridge. There's no line, just a crowd of people you have to push your way through to get on. I saw an elderly asian woman almost knock over this Jamaican lady who was carrying a baby. Seeing that, and having already failed to get on the first bus that came and left, I gave my ticket to the nearest ratty-looking hipster and left for Amtrak. Never again.

Their conditions are so deplorable that it's pathetic!!

I'd NEVER book a trip with them anywhere. How in the hell does the gov't allow them to even stay in business? It's beyond me!

I'll hop on a plane and FLY to NY or Philly first!!! Or like you said, take Amtrak.

Sounds like a good subject for a gritty photo thread, if anyone has the balls or insanity to take it on! Probably some risks involved in addition to the risks just associated with being a passenger.

As I've flown RyanAir MMX-STN-MMX myself (~$35 US btw) I'm very aware of service and attitude situation with this airline - it simply sucks.

Although, since their prices are very low, I can fully understand how they can be so popular.

I've done two flights (roundtrips) with LCCs (RyanAir and Easyjet) in Europe, and I'm pretty sure I won't do any more of them.

Ryanair has always been fine when I took it, but I flew some obscure routes that weren't completely full so maybe that was why. Stansted - Salzburg, Cardiff - Dublin, Prestwick - Stansted, etc.

EasyJet was much better, though, but certainly more expensive. I last flew them to Copenhagen. The flight attendants on Ryanair looked like they barely finished their O levels!

Regarding Fung Wah, you get what you pay for. Daquan is about a year or more late to the game - everyone already knows about the horrors of this company in the Northeast. Greyhound lowered their fares, and the price difference is negligible - so just take Greyhound.

Or, if you're going to Philly like I do, take NJT+Septa, bring a bottle or two of wine on board, and enjoy.

I wouldn't knock all of them - Ryanair is worse than others, but I've had great experiences with Easyjet. And Air Berlin was good, too.

I'm still wondering how you can afford all these magical trips around the world you take! Is your dad the president of Skanska?

I've also flown Ryan Air on a few fairly obscure routes (Salzburg - Dublin, Dublin - Manchester) and was unimpressed, but not disappointed. I got exactly what I paid for - nothing but a seat on a plane. They were efficient and on time. But that's it.

On the other hand, I've flown SAS and Aer Lingus on tickets that cost less than what Ryan Air was charging and had excellent flights, complete with the great service you would expect on a high-priced carrier.

Yeah, something is seriously wrong with this co., and it seems that the gov't is turning a blind eye to the constant debacle they have created!!

I wouldn't travel on any of their buses even if it was for free!!!
