Still there are no new airports in 150 kms radius around it.

Kannur airport comes within
90 kms radius of Calicut airport. It looks like a diabolic

supported by certain CPM politicians are behind this idea.

Earlier Aviation Ministry had thrown this to dustbin. The

It appeared in news that the sanction was given on the basis

of data given (generated?)
by travel agents !!

Anyways, looks like the political mentors of this project like

Pinarayi are deeply muddled
in scandals and will soon go to wilderness, taking this

"project" along with them.
Renik i dont think that kannur dont hav any thing to attract

traffic...hope u know that kannur textile & plywood industry

is really big,and they r earning very good revenue from

these...kannur is a fertile land for industry & tourism..so if

kannur airport comes it can boost its economy..then one more

fact is that the airport wont be international, its domestic,so

its not going to effect the traffic of both Calicut &

Mangalore Airpots..plz visit kannur thread of SSC,click the

Sanju

Then you can be sure that Kannur airport will sink without a trace. In the context of
Kerala-Konkan, international traffic is easier to come as there are lots of Gulf travellers.
If there is only domestic service it can't dream of breaking even, At none of these airports
domestic traffic is significant.
See the domestic traffic at Mangalore & Calicut. Its very small.
Textile and plywood industry in Kannur together does not earn even Rs.1000 cr. How do
you expect it to generate domestic traffic when that's the only thing ?

Moreover, the info that you provided just goes to show that this proposal is fraud. The
data given by the "supporters" of the project justifies the need for an airport saying that
55% of Gulf travellers from Calicut & Mangalore are from Kannur and nearby areas.
(None knows if this itself is true - it was provided by some travel agents, apparently)
By showing the "traffic" of intn'l passengers how is a domestic airport justified ?

Be sure, this is a real estate fraud in making. The project may or may not take-off, but
mafia will mint money.

PS: There is an incident narrated by one of the members of a central commission
that came to study agriculture in a some area couple of decades ago. The commission
went to village in Kerala to find ways to improve agri productivity etc. They sought the requirements
of the villagers. The villagers headed by the local leaders instead demanded that they need
an airport !! Mind you this is a real incident. Just to show you how easily people can be conned.

I never said that kannur textile industry is a 1000 crore business...but it can be made to full bloom if an airport comes...earlier i hav even heard that they r goin to develop it to explore the unknown tourism industry in kannur....

any ways i guess it will be very difficult to materialise this kannur airport...

Yes.. its true of Cochin international too. But notice in Kochi int'l traffic is 1.5 million
while domestic is 1.1 million. Airport can go even with domestic traffic. (Actually old
Cochin a/p had only domestic and traffic was just 500,000). But in the case of Calicut
and Mangalore, they r more critically dependend on int'l traffic. Efforts must be to better these two instead of trying to create a death pact where three airports sink together.

To make textile industry full bloom you have to improve the required infrastructure.
If airport is needed, they can provide a 4-lane link to Calicut via NH. It will take less
than 90 minutes to reach Calicut airport then. And it will be a boon to all public transport.
Actually the more we talk about it the more it is becoming clear how fraudulent this idea
is.

Yes.. I have seen it... the name didn't register The "mega" in the name sent
expectations soaring. This is 125,000 sq ft. Not even as big as Focus I suppose.

sanju chetta, i think our government is simply wasting money by investing in kannur airport project.this is simply to help the real estate lobby.for a state like kerala 3 airports r enough and these r located in apt places.instead of wasting money in kannur airport, the government should invest those money in improving the facilities of calicut airport.

Govt nod for School of Mathematics
Thursday September 13 2007 05:26 IST

Express News Service

T’PURAM: The State Government has given the go-ahead to the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) to enter into an agreement with the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) for the creation of the Kozhikode-based School of Mathematics.

Both the government and DAE will offer a financial assistance of Rs 5 crore for the school, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said at a post-Cabinet briefing here on Wednesday.

A joint initiative of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India and KSCSTE, the School would be run as a national facility centre promoting mathematical studies and research in the country. The School of Mathematics is an attempt to re-establish the high and enviable mathematical tradition which existed in the state centuries ago.
