DUBAI - Al Burj - 3937' Pinnacle/ 250 Floors

Im suprised that no one made a thread about this one yet.
The Al Burj will be around 800 meters to 1000 so it might beat the Burj Dubai or not.The Al Burj will be finished in 2010 and will have 200 floors. Al Burj was originally proposed as "The Pinnacle" in 2004 for the trunk of Palm Jumeirah but has now been redesigned and moved to the Dubai Waterfront, probably due to aesthetic reasons.

Enjoy!

I happen to like this more than Burj Dubai. It's still marked down as a proposal, so don't count it out yet. In Dubai anything is possible!

This project is still alive and kicking and they are actually looking for contractors which means they're crazy enough to build this thing. In fact the company behind it (Nakheel) is just as insane and has serious size issues. They're the ones building the palm island and since the first one was a success what do they do? Go nuts with the coastline and build another two each bigger than the one before. Of course they can't stop there so they release a project called "dubai waterfront" which is almost as big as dubai itsself. "What the hell are they thinking" springs to mind when I think about them.
Rumours say this will cross 1km and knowing Nakheel I'm 90% sure this will be the case, heck they were even crazy enough to consider a mile high tower. It'll definitely be horrendously huge. It's pure penis envy unlike the burj dubai which has an economic reason to be built (yes that's right, the burj dubai's part of a massive complex and acts like the crowning jewel of the development, similar to what the chrysler's spire does for the chrysler, boosts prestige).
Seriously though, apart from the 1st palm and a few projects here and there Nakheel and this tower are something Dubai could do without.

Here's an article from November:

Contractors jockey for Burj Dubai rival tower scheme
CONSTRUCTION UAE
27 Oct 2006

Local real estate developer Nakheel has selected contractors to work on pre-construction agreements for its Al-Burj project. The tower will form the centrepiece of the first phase of the Dubai Waterfront development and is expected to be one of the tallest in the world. It may even challenge the 800-metre-plus Burj Dubai scheme being developed by the local Emaar Properties . In December last year, Nakheel confirmed that the tower will be at least 700 metres tall (MEED 9:12:05).

Companies working on preconstruction agreements, which involve value engineering and construction planning, include South Korea’s Samsung Corporation , Japan’s Shimizu Corporation and Australia’s Grocon . A US team of Pei Partnership Architects (PPA) and Axis Design Group (ADG) completed the preliminary designs for the tower late last year.

The pre-construction agreements are the latest sign of contract activity at Dubai Waterfront. In September, the joint venture of the local APCC with Vibro Foundation , a wholly-owned subsidiary of France’s Soletanche Bachy , was awarded a ground improvement contract for Palm Jebel Ali, which has been incorporated into the Dubai Waterfront development, and the local Ghantoot Transport & General Contracting was awarded the phase 1 earthmoving contract for phase 1 of Dubai Waterfront. Belgium’s Jan De Nul began working on the dredging package for Dubai Waterfront in July and is close to completing the reclamation and rock placement works for Palm Jebel Ali (MEED 22:9:06).

this is my favourite project in dubai. i think it has an elegance in its simple overall design. it may challenge the burj but i don't think it will hit 1km, altohughif the burj goes to 1011m nahkeel will beat it, he has no choice. if you wanna be the best, build the best.

this one looks soo much better than Burj, would like to see it cept - what will occupy this building, same for the other skyscrapers being constructed in Dubai? Its not like 20 million people are gonna magically flood into Dubai.

^ Exactly. I understand that they feel that Dubai is in a boom and on teh verge of a mega boom, but they are over reaching. And no one is more responcible for that than Nakheel. Dubai waterfront alone is 10 times too big. At this point, if you add up all the projects proposed and under construction, Dubai will need to have the commerce institutions of NYC, London, and Hong Kong combined. Which it will not. If they all get built we are looking at empty towers and ghost town neighborhoods. But if they have the money to build recklessly without fear of bankruptsy, by all means build away. most of the towers are gorgeous.

I like this project more than BD. I hope they finish it. As someone stated above, in Dubai, everything is possible.

Its sad that we started building skysrapers forever ago, and then people eventually forgot why we started making them. It was to save space at ground level. You dont put a skyscraper in a desert, its not necessary. However, it is one sexy bitch.

Why is it "sad"? Some of you are forgetting that Dubai has a huge demand for hotels and office space. I flew there about a month ago and had a very hard time finding a hotel with available rooms.

This one's more attractive than Burj Dubai. Too many setbacks on the Burj Dubai - it looks like they're cheating on the height.

I do hope they have some provisions in Dubai to keep all these skyscrapers lit up at night when they're "done". It will certainly be embarrassing to have all these glittering towers by day visible as unoccupied hulks at night for the next few decades.

None of the articles on here state anything specific about a height (aside from "may be taller than 700 m") or number of floors taller than Burj, aside from hearsay. It seems to me like the height and number of floors in the thread title are made up as a random guess. Why is this thread special?

I don't know if it is a rule or something, but I guess I am just used to Chicago's and other threads where information is confirmed to be accurate, and not just pulled out of nowhere from a 4 month old article in post #9, or a December 2005 article like in the first post?

The renderings posted dont even seem to be a redesign, they look the same as from over a year ago from what I can tell. What makes this website good, is having accurate information about buildings. Thats why we come here.

Is this tower part of "Phase I" of the Dubai Waterfront, which is the construction the article malec posted mentions? What is in the rest of the Dubai waterfront? Why not merge this into a larger thread about that, since there seems to be almost no new news about this tower specifically in many months.

Otherwise, this thread is about as useful as the Beitler Telecom Tower thread. They released an article a few months ago also, but we all know that project won't happen.

^^ You'll rarely find a lot of info on dubai projects anyway.
