While WTC 1 is comming along - it looks stunning! - i cant wait to see it topped out wit ht the spire. I cant help thinking how two of these buildings would have looked next two each other - come on, one looks awesome but two....! The price tag for the building is just silly imo! When will it reach its full height before the spire?

Does anyone else think that Durst refuses to put the radome on the spire so that the Port Authority eventually pays for it?

never thought of this before but I'm a bit suspicious.

PS. yea sorry to bring up the spire again it's just I couldn't help wondering.

No, because they still won't want it up because they'd have to shed money if it ever became damaged.

well they're gonna have to shed money if the building itself becomes damaged too... or the antenna...

I don't see the logic

What do you guys think the odds are of either the original radome cladding or some other design being added at some point in the future (years or even decades from now)? After all, they're going with the original internal design - seems like cladding could be added when New York gets somebody with some balls in a high enough position.

None. The mast structure and antenna placement would be different for cladding. Deleting cladding will make adding antennas harder. Now the antennas and mounts will be outside instead of inside and they'll need to be mounted and rated for hurricane force winds. They might save having to maintain the cladding, but it will make installing and maintaining the antennas and the mast a lot harder. They'll also have to worry about appearances a lot more. all of which will make the site less attractive to users and bring in less revenue.
It was a short sighted decision.

Not gonna happen. Once those broadcasters are up there, they're not gonna let anything mess with their signal, I don't care how many backups Durst has. It's not just a matter of
simply adding cladding to the antenna, but the "house" around it.

400 meters

forgive me if i prefer to use meters, but, as i'm european, it's very hard for me to make an idea of height with feet..

So, i wanted to know if the next "jump" will make the tower pass the height of 400 meters , and when will this jump occur

for me, 400 meters is THE most important milestone for freedom tower in order to dominate the skyline !

The next jump will bring us to 400 meters, or 1,313 feet.

I've seen rumors on skyscrapercity last week that base glass has begun.
They also have added some type of platform on the top of the base as well.

Maybe they are going to begin.

I was told that it wouldn't start until late this year.

Forget the Twin Towers. The new design has grown on me, and I can't wait for it to top out. I'm still miffed about the last-minute short-sighted thoughtless design change to the spire tho. I still say it's the wrong move...

Empire tells the fascinating story behind these two steel giants. How has skyscraper construction changed in 81 years? How has it remained the same? dont mean to go off track but does anyone have a link or anything to this, thanks in advance and sorry for any off tracking of the thread
