Beekman looks badass in the first picture........1 WTC looks imposing between the Woolworth and Federal Court Building in the first picture. I only wish they would've gone taller, something like 2,000 ft would've been nice.

That's the Municipal Building. The Marshall Courthouse is a couple of blocks north of it.

funny, but even if i really love the shape of Freedom tower, for me the twin towers looked more impressive...

But in one hand it's normal:
first, there were TWO twin towers: it looked more massive as the two buildings were very close to each other.
Then, many buildings of south manhattan were not yet built in 2001, like the beekman tower, or the WFC... the twin towers dominated a skyline more reduced than now.
And finally, because of their shape, each twin tower's volume was 1.5 times bigger than Freedom tower...

What about your minds ?

At least, everybody in NY seems to love the new design, whereas the twin towers never managed to seduce ...

The WFC was built in the 80s, dude.

Also, this new WTC will dominate much more than the twin towers did. Keep in mind there are still two massive supertalls to squeeze in there.

But it's understandable that people can't really visualize it; a 1000+ ft. wall of giant skyscrapers is not exactly common in the world.

Very nice. The crane gives you some idea what it will look like with the antenna.

I just can't imagine the final antenna is going to look uglier and more skeletal than the original north tower antenna. Hopefully they'd clad it with something, at least. I don't care if it doesn't count as a spire, just make it look a little nicer.

What if they meant the "4th of July top-out" as the 105th floor and not the parapet, because it sure is starting to seem as a parapet top-out wouldn't be possible in 6 days.

cranes are higher and higher...

my friend who works at the site tells me that the last beam will go up on July 3rd (not the 4th) and the rest of smaller beams in the coming months.....there!

(bad thing is i will be away on vacation, so i won't be able to photograph it... )
