I'm very amused by that fact that the spire of this tower is causing so much hipe. A spire is a spire, how do you want it to look? People won't notice it from the ground nor care about it when they see from the air. The tower itself is the attraction, not the spire.

I personally have no problem with it. I think it completes the entire building and pulls the entire complex together.

That sounds more like an attraction from 'Disney World' rather than the top of a World Trade Center. So no, I would doubt it. This isn't the Stratosphere in Las Vegas with 'light shows' and 'rides' on the top, it's an office building.

Mark This Day

A peek at the Earthcam shows that the FT has officially risen above street level with the an extension of one of the outside steel columns by another length. See the southern most column on the east side.

Exclamation

The Freedom Tower is now above street level. It seems like it's happening too early according to what the media has been saying, but I'll take it. I wonder of we'll see horizontal or diagonal beams too.

Not too early, original predictions were around this time of year, but that was pushed back. I guess in the next few months this thing will really pick up above ground.

My guess is that the cranes are resting on what will be the elevator banks and the stairwells, and the steel outline is the outline of the full core.

My question is though, given that 'wall' that was erected between Tower 1 and the PATH tracks, will there be access to the underground tunnel that'll lead to the WFC from Tower 1?

the tunnel to WFC is a definite. Thats why they dug up the front lawn of the Amex building months ago. I think the tunnel under west st is pretty much dug

Do you happen to know though at what location within the underground portion of the complex it will connect? My guess it that'll connect with the undergound mall or the memorial.
