What's this? The tall fat vertical gray thing between the brackets? Wasn't there yesterday, can't new steel as it is resting on a concrete pad, I think.

I see in the picture I just posted, that the crane in the North Core was picking up another section that was on the pavement to the right. That section has now been placed it on top of the section already noted, increasing its height to the top of the South Core! Maybe ventilation? Updated picture:

Nice to see this finally rising out of the ground, and it'll be well worth the wait to watch it rise.

Is there a separate forum for Fumihiko Maki’s WTC Tower 4? Looks like the core prep is well underway for that one. If so, link please, thanks.

It's in the Highrise Construction section since it's less than 1,000' tall.

Here's the last page of that thread:

The Goldman Sachs and 7 WTC both look sharp in that pic... what a superb new NYC district this will be, once all the construction is finished! Truly "the first new city of the 21st century," as the NY Time's architecture critic put it a few years ago...

Both will be dwarfed by what is to come. I think the awareness of the scale of the original WTC has been lost on some, but the combined effect of 3 supertalls (and a couple of 900 footers) in that short space will be more dramatic than what was there before.

Is it just my imagination, or is the Deutsche Bank Building actually beginning to slowly descend? Seems like it's gotten shorter - I thought work on pulling it down was on hold?

It's your imagination. It'll be stuck at 25 stories until it's completely abated.

How exciting! I wonder if there going to have a huge grand opening with obama or bush there or something like that? And have people sing or something.
