people drive 8 hours or so from ft st john bc to shop in edmonton often, IKEA was a draw for some - people plan shopping trips and IKEA is a good draw/excuse to make that trip

People come from even further to visit the Edmonton IKEA. It is hugely popular with Saskatchewanians (maybe not in the South, where Calgary IKEA is closer). But if you want to talk about going long distances to go to an IKEA, every so often the Edmonton IKEA (especially in the summer) will have NWT license plates.

Just back from montreal, their IKEA is being expanded to over 400,000 sq ft making it the largest in Canada.

Not really a big deal. Most of the difference is in the warehouse areas.

The layouts inside are pretty much the same cookie cutter mouse mazes.

That part pisses me off alot. Got lost in the Calgary one WAY too many times...

Only place I figured out was the cafeteria, and even the microwaves we're like searching for needles in a haystack...

Meh. Just another Home Depot/Rona clone.

There is nothing at Lowes that you haven't seen before.

I'm a little dissapointed; was hoping that maybe Menards would make the border jump. But, this doesn't surprise me as Lowes has set up shop in several other Canadian Cities already.

Do you post on the IKEA forum? It's still on the Winnipeg Retail forum.

About what you could imagine. It is more that pretty big now, and becoming very blue with each passing day. They are over half way being enclosed. Think of it what you will but i have to admit it is pretty impressive just how large it is.

Yep, looks like they're on about page 4 of the assembly instructions. Lets hope that they aren't missing any pieces. The Coquitlam IKEA was my local 'hometown' ikea before I moved to Winnipeg; that one is 350,000 sq/ft, and was impressive to walk though. This one will definitely be more-so.

Someone noted that costco LOWERED the price of their hot dogs recently. I wonder if this is a move to better match IKEA's checkout cafe prices. Maybe not; just a coincidence.

How much cheaper can they get - isn't it already only $1.99 for a hotdog AND a pop. Any lower and you're approaching McCafe extra value menu prices

I was checking careers at IKEA, no jobs yet in Winnipeg yet. But Winnipeg is included in the drop-down menu for locations in Canada

I think the IKEA hotdogs are 49 cents each.

$1.99 gets you 2 hotdogs and a pop.
