Atlanta building murals past and present

Anyone remember these scattered around downtown? The older scanned slides date back to the mid 70's;

those are awesome, especially 3 and 4. look at the pedestrian traffic! if we could bring those [pedestrian] levels back today; i guess downtown didn't really decline until the 80s?

so how many slides do you have left to scan, joe?

Great shots, Joe! Just seeing the old C&S logo took me back in an instant, and seeing proud old Rich's again just about made me cry. I had fogotten all those colorful murals around Five Points. Atlanta was an exciting place back in the 1970s, when everybody wanted to come here to work and play. I am glad to see much of that same excitement returning as a new generation discovers that it wants to live intown, too.

By the way, what is/was that old building with all the turrets to the immediate west of The Equitable building in the second photo? I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't recognize it.

That's the Forsyth Street Theater and Office building. The theater was behind the office building. I am scanning a lot of my old 'vintage' gone but not forgotten buildings so watch for a future post.

Well, that mural is definitely gone (building was demolished). Just walked by that area today as a matter of fact.
