That last one "from the 90s" is actually what was proposed for 8 and 8 (where 8 West is going up).

I'd be very impressed if someone found:

1) The Trizec proposal for the east empty lot east of the Inernational Hotel. It was from ~1990 and was ~30 stories.

2) The hotel proposal for the current site of Centrium. The developer was from Vancouver and proposed a building of ~30 stories with a curved glass facade.

3) The never built second tower of the Western Gas complex. It would have been on the west side of Eaton's covering what is now a parking lot and CityTV.

CtrlAltDel, feel like trying a "what could have been" rendering? maybe we could compare it to a "what might (and should) be" rendering.

I'm assuming the Bay Park Plaza should read 3.03 Million Square feet, and not 303 million sqare feet as it appears to.

Yeah, someone had mentioned that before. I think I might try it, I'm not sure of the location for most of these buildings though. Could make for a great comparison for sure.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the second tower of Western Gas would have been where the Eaton/Sears now is.

Nope. That's where TCPL / James Short is. You can see how the eventual James Short +15 apes the cicular element of the prior proposal...

In colour it doesn't. B5 has more glass. Macintyre (sic?) had prominent white spandrels, iirc.

Does anyone know where these were proposed? Are they noted in the Glenbow archives?

The Western Gas complex, including the taller unbuilt 2nd tower, is in the almighty Bible...it is indeed on the site of the current Sears deparment store.

Wow...and I believe its the same firm that did both proposals...'regurgitation' must be a new trend in Architecture. Perhaps we can call it 'massaging'

The addresses of most or all of these cancelled projects are printed in the book Calgary Architecture, The Boom Year which as I said, lives in the local history room of the central library (4th floor.) The call number is 720. 971233 GUI
