Chicago gets palm trees along the beaches near LSD from about late spring through early fall. There are companies that rent them.
Enough global warming and we can have some year-round.
I have some palm shrubs that have made it through their third winter so far. They don't look too great, but they are alive.

It isn't always a problem. Someone owning a condo and paying the monthly fee , locking the door and leaving town for a while wouldn't cause much of a problem, nor would the owner of a large rental developement who hired a property manager.
