Uh, I think the main thing they don't like about Trump is the goofy spire.

Ours doesn't run up most of the length of the building...

The base is also better integrated into the LaCaille tower than on Trump.

Well if he like a fusion of a few too many styles then fine. But these two building are massed in such a similar way that I won't take it off. And the base of Trump is limestone to match the deco buildings around it Boris so the tower integrates into it's surrounding not just it's own style.

Actually side by side, LaCaille actually makes Trump look classy.

You're just picking on a guy for not liking something you like, when he, more than ANYONE on this thread judges projects based on design (his taste of course) instead of WHERE they're being built. I agree that Boris and Johnnyc certainly seem to contradict themselves but not Arriviste.

You missed his point, I think. Arriviste HATES Pomo. Trump looks as much a log of shit to him as LaCaille will.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe I've ever said that I particularly dislike Trump Tower myself. I find it a little bland and some elements of it tacky, though. I certainly prefer our tower over Trump. That doesn't mean that ours the be-all-and-end-all of architecture.

Personally I like the LaCaille proposal better than the Trump one. I might be biased, but that's my opinion.

infinitely better with a better spire however I prefer Trump's more uniform setback layers (gives it height)

Anyways, The similarities end at architectural style and massing and I don't think any Torontonian would consider Commerce Court West similar to Greenwin Square at Y&E

Dude, get a life, Trump looks thrown together, the podium looks tacked on and doesn't relate to, or compliment the design in any way, and that spire is fucking BRUTAL!! LaCaille was way better thought out, the base both relates to and compliments the rest of the building,. 10X better than trump, at least.

Edit, besides, I said the render looks kind of bad, you dont get a feel for any texture, and I said, as you quoted" it could be good once it's done.

PS, Trump is as bad as LaCaille, no question. Fucking garbage. TO deserves better, and can obviously do better. Here's someone who understands my plight. It is PoMo crap isn't it DrJoe? No matter if it were being built in TO, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, NYC, HK, whatever, the fact is still the same: It's junk in terms of well, in terms of everything.
