100 SW Columbia

I found this First Quarter 2007 Tenant's Guide by CresaPartners. In their overview they indicate 100 SW Columbia will be breaking ground this year, First and Main next year...Anyone hear anything? I thought the Columbia project was dead.

Yeah! I remember reading an article a ways back (in the fall, I think) that the guys who were planning to do 100 Columbia were exploring the possibility of attempting the building (again). As I recall, the website was still up then; checking to see if it still is.

Haha oh god thats ugly. What is it with the small, boxy design on everything in that area of portland? It seems like such a waste of space...thanks be to height limits for destroying the skyline. I guess one positive is that it takes up that parking lot.

... this building is limited by an existing underground garage... hence the short stubby box.

Existing structure in the underground garage - that's too bad! Definitely limits what you can do, as strengthening existing supports & making them seismic-proof has got to cost some money.

I think that area of town really needs this tower, First and Main, and the new courthouse. Yes, both the office towers are mediocre, but the entire area feels disconnected with government buildings lacking street level connections and parking lots littering the landscape every few blocks.

Looks perfectly mediocre to me

: wedged between KOIN, the Marriott, the Umpqua building, and... a parking garage?

I'll say it again, I would much rather see One Waterfront Place, over by the Broadway Bridge, get built than either this or Madison. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that OWP has joined the ranks of Jumptown, the Delano, and the Oak...

I also wholeheartedly agree with Mark that this area of dt needs an infusion of ground level activity. But, as with the Lloyd District, I don't want to settle for anything over quality. Not that I have any choice.
