I found these photos of Salt Lake City in 1983. That year City Creek flooded and created a river down State Street. It was the worst flood in Salt Lake history and made for some great photographs.

Bulloughs from Flickr.
This looks about the same today, except the Sears sign is updated and there isn't a river running down the street.
The old Center Theatre, which was demolished in the early 90s for a high-rise.
State Street and 600 South.
Looking south down State.
In front of the City and County Building, which was under seismic retrofitting in the 80s since we're an earthquake hot spot. Of course we haven't had a major earthquake in the past 20 or so years, but we've had flood consume downtown and a tornado rip through downtown.
This is South Temple and State, at the base of the LDS Church Office Building. The Deseret Gym can also be seen, but that was demolished in the 90s.
State Street, with the City and County Building. And yes, that car dealership is still there...
More of State.
State, at Washington Square.
4th and State.
Looking south down State. Pretty much looks this way now, except without the water.
Looking up toward Memory Grove, where this whole damn problem started.
They should have kept it.
Ah, the 1980s, gotta love it.
