Downtown Phoenix in 2012

Ahh, the cartoony time machine worked!

So, can someone name all of the projects added in this pic?

I see 2 ASU dorm towers, CPE, Copper Pointe, the Jet, 44 Monroe, Momentum Tower, CityScape Office Tower, CityScape Mixed Use, and Omega. Its too bad a few of those probably won't happen. Oh yeah, and you forgot the Sheraton. Very cool regardless.

Edit: Nevermind, I know why you left out the Shearton.

I'm just nit-picking here, but isn't the Jet supposed to be north of the parking garage on 2nd Ave?

^ Don't know exactly. I just guessed and stuck it in there. It's close if not right on the money.

Och, I forgot the hideous bread-box (Sheraton), PHX PD. I went back and added it. Welcome to the Phoenix Stardust Casino Hotel. It's 1969, folks, at least based on how the building looks.

Great job Don-
I certainly hope for a skyline such as this by 2012!
Who knows- maybe Light Rail and ASU will lure the developer masses...
(And the Real Estate market will clear up soon)

That's great Don. I was thinking about this the other day... when will we reach the point when we could look at a postcard of downtown Phoenix and not be embarrassed? 2012 might be it. Too bad we can't take a five minute time travel tour five years into the future to see how this will really all come together (and what the scene will be like at street level).

By the way, isn't there a new 16-story court tower planned to break ground this year? Have we seen renderings? Perhaps it could be added to Don's futuristic vision.

Phoenix actually like it has depth! I like it!

That's is one of the biggest problems with our downtown now, it has no depth to it...you see a building, and behind it it's all sky. I want to have buildings and more buildings behind it...density!

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll get much more then CityScape, Central Park East, and possibly Omega in the near future. Still though, I was thinking about this the other day...how many parking lots have already or will be in the near future disappearing? Quite a few...I can think of 8 large lots that are/will be buildings plus the 44 Monroe site that was under developed before plus Patriot's Part that will have buildings on it. Those might not be big numbers for other cities...but in such a small downtown like Phoenix's, it's a big percentage.

Hmmm..... downtown still looks a little scruffy around the base. Can we throw in some brownstones?

Well you have to consider that the 'scruffy' area just north of CPE will be a park. But I do agree, there are still far too many surface lots, but who knows, in the next 4-5 years, hopefully those can be filled up.

It would look great in 5 years if these all went through. I'll hope for the best for my neighbor to the south. Denver finally is getting new towers, after a 20+ year hiatus..

Frank Gehry got his hands on DT, didn't he?

Thanks, Don. Love it, especially CPE. Think that'll be great.

^I wish. I'm not really a fan of Gehry's, I think most of his stuff is obtuse just for the sake of being obtuse, but I'm all for unique, odd buildings, so I'd love it if he designed something here (won't ever happen though).

Awesome rendering Don...me likes. You should have increased the height of 44 Monroe a tad bit more and gave it more density. Other than that, Phoenix will look fantastic a few years from now.

You forgot the ASU School of Journalism building...that would give some mid-rise density to the photo.

By the way awesome "prediction" of the near future of Dtwn. Phx.

However, I do have a major concern!!!!!

That momentum tower(or silver building) that is in the photo, I personally I think that tower should be taken out of the photo, because there has not been any thing or any hint that something will be started on that project. On the emporis highrise web site, that highrise is listed as a "FANTASY" Project.

Now get this, IF an APPROVED project such as the "W" can be shot down, the chances of an unapproved and yet "fantasy" project such as MOMENTUM being built are like playing the lottery and hoping to win 100 million.

Dont get me wrong I love your attempt at being "creative", but all I am saying is NOT to get your hopes up for a "fantasy" project if an approved project cant even get built.

Like I said earlier about the so called METRO LOFTS(BROPHY TOWER) or whatever the hell they figure out to call it, IF no developments or motions or any thing doesnt progress towards any kind of ground breaking within 8 months, screw it, dont get your hopes up for it otherwise, you might experience

the "W" HOTEL !!!!!!!!! EFFECT.

By the way there was even a time limit to start that hotel which was June 30, 2007 . And since that didnt happen, it became part of the projects demise. Perhaps the judge didnt think sarver was serious enough about building the thing.

BUT that doesnt leave out the fact that the sun merc skum-suckers had INITIATED the projects downfall.

lgbuild, hopefully the Momentum Tower is something more than fantasy. HX Guy posted a "Pre-Application Screen" permit from late June of this year. Here's hoping

You do realize that the guy who maintains that list on emporis is our very own Don - the guy who made the photo....
