Great photos! I know I've been party to the Moncton bashing in the past, but I must admit that it is good seeing cities in New Brunswick become relevant again, whether it is Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton or all three. I'm a proud Saint Johner first, but my pride in New Brunswick comes a close second, so I can find joy in the success of one of this province's fine cities.

I still would never accept a job in Moncton, but it is certinly doing very well for itself, and these photos have done a great job capturing its core.

Lovely shots, especially your night ones. I like your shooting style.

Love that communications tower too.. what an interesting piece of architecture.

Very nice photos! Night ones are especially quite good!

I like the Aliant Tower too. If it was in Halifax, I could see the heritage groups attempting to put some sort of garish weather vane on top to make it more "in keeping".

Edit: Stu, I like the title under your name

People actually like the Aliant tower? I honestly thought everyone universally hated it.

It certainly distinguishes Moncton's skyline. I love driving down Champlain street from the airport. When you're going towards Downtown Dieppe, the tower is perfectly aligned with the centre of the street. Kinda like our own Eiffel Tower, i suppose. :p

I believe many do, but its really special because of how it was constructed (constant pour of concrete).

It's great as a navigational device...where ever you are in Moncton, you know which way downtown is...

Well I like it because I like communications equipment and infrastructure, and this tower is so interesting looking.

My only issue with the tower is...I've been told...that is the reason why none of our newer downtown structures are higher than they...because of the tower and the longstanding agreement with the city and Aliant not to build structures above a certain height.

Whether this is true or not...I have no idea...but if it is...that is a pretty lame reason for not increasing the vertical aspect of our city skyline.

Well, I don`t know the explanation so Moncton`s skyline is some kind boring in comparison to Saint John or Halifax as well.

Like you said there is a vertical trend in this city : Blue Cross, Terminal, new Mariott ect... all those structures could easily above twelve-stories high.

Exactly...what happens when they eventually run out of room downtown (and it will happen)...do they then start tearing down these building's to build bigger ones?

You point out a fact, there are so much rooms in downtown core right now, Why get built something high when developers could save money in the process ? Moncton city should take a look at Saint John`s coastguard project.

Hopefully this new Assumption project will help add more of a vertical aspect to the skyline

Not likely...according to the City's 'downtown' plan the plan in for all mid-rise or lower structures in the core...they also plan on planting 5000 trees so that's going to take up some of the available land. There was some mention in the plan as well to take into planning a structure the amount of shade and shadows it places on streets and residential areas.

Not necessarily though. The plan is quite vague in a lot of ways as far as hight goes. If memory serves, it does suggest that taller buildings have pedestals no taller than around ten stories. Then the buildings should narrow beyond that.
