The funny thing about Trader Joes is that it is owned, in a roundabout way, by the owners of Germany's Aldi chains of supermarkets, which is the German equivalent to No-Frills/Thrifys/Buy-Lo.

I didn't think it was a secret, it's going to be Escada but they aren't taking the full space just most of it, the corner is still available for lease.

Yes this was the tenant I was not allowed to disclose the rumour leaked through store employees who weren't supposed to know. It is a confirmed location. The small space is under negotiations with Mont Blanc right now! If you have any questions feel free!

The brochure I have from the leasing agent for the remaining parcel lists the upcoming tenant, so if it was supposed to be kept secret then the leasing agent really dropped the ball, not that anything like that could stay quiet for long anyways.

Do you know the possible opening date for Escada?

A Mont Blanc store would be slightly disappointing. However, Vancouver could really use a shop specializing in high end pens of various brands. Similar to w.Ink in the Wynn Las Vegas.

Mont Blanc is really the Tiffany's (mass produced, well marketed, and cheaply made) of pens, anyways.

Thanks. This is what I suspected. Although given the size, I thought it might be more suitable for T&T.

Well technically it was supposed to be kept under wraps. Oh well. Anyway, it's dissappointing to me

Slightly off-topic... but I'd take H-Mart over T&T ANY day.

As for PriceSmart, they've really changed their model recently... even closer to emulating Extra Foods... I would say Superstore, but they have clothing and stuff.

Safeway is lowering prices too, they have changed their strategy. It seems these store are doing more "Everyday low prices" over flyers and sales.

Is the Vancouver Pen Shop still in the Standard Building?

The Chop Shop is moving to the vacant space beside Le Chateau at Granville south of Helmcken. It's the 1100 block and used to be Wally's Adult etc etc.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the 2 level 14,000 sq ft H&M opening at Park Royal South. They needed the lower level stores of Eddie Bauer and Gullivers Travel shop to do it. The owner of Gullivers was going to retire soon anyway so he won't relocate. Don't know when the opening will be.

it was mentioned a few months ago somewhere in here... (about H&M)

so with Escada moving... that space in sinclair centre - could it be the talked about Forever 21? the Escada space is really quite large and could house something like Forever 21... could bring a lot of traffic down that way

Forever 21 would bring a lot of people down there, but it would be a risk, I would compare it to the one in montreal in Complex les ailes, the mall wasn't very busy before they opened it but once it did it brought more trafic to the mall.

I never actually put that much thought in to it. Their food court has a place that makes good (Ishiyaki) Bibimbap.

Just have to be careful to leave out the Ishiyaki part that's in the Japanese name for the dish

My rather Korean nationalist friend gets very offended when I call Korean BBQ "Yakiniku" too....

Mmm. What I'd do for some good Bibimbap now.
