My bad. That's what I meant, a small convenience store, and a money mart. Not a supermarket. is that lot going to be anything than what it currently is?

me and my friend walked past that place on saturday and wondered why the owners held out and didn't just sell off - its not that big a lot it would be a hard piece to develop especially if they need above ground parking as well

I ended up at SFU two weeks ago and snapped a few pics with my phone. The first one here is an interesting little project called Origin (sorry I have no idea what caused the wavy effect, but I assure you that the building is in fact straight!):

Next door is the rather more mundane Nest:

Everything in this pic is over 5 years old, but I was just struck by how well it has all aged. A truly outstanding job, and a beautiful gateway to the Univercity Crescent neighborhood!

Down in Poco, The Shaugnessy is nearly completed. In the near future I'll do a walkaround and get some more detailed pics for a final update:

And to Coquitlam Centre, where Grand Central 2 looks to be finished with its glazing:

Next door, Oasis is still racing ahead:

Anyone know anything about the three 30 story towers that are being build at boundary and kingsway. It's called Wall Centre Central Park.

Being on the west side of Boundary they are technically in the City of Vancouver so the thread is in the Vancouver section:

that new outlet mall being built out by the airport - do they plan to add in a pedestrian bridge across the river? if they did it would take like 5 minutes to get there on foot from aberdeen station... if not it would probably take 20 minutes by foot

Who goes to an outlet mall on foot? Maybe the employees. Don't believe there is any plan for a bridge either way. Perhaps if there were enough other things to service it could make sense but I don't think the mall would foot the bill on it's own.

Maybe they'll have a free shuttle.

it's too bad cause the site is directly across from the road that is inline at aberdeen station - i know the developer never would but richmond could do it

the closest bridge is a long walk from any station, way to make it car central

I haven't heard of this outlet mall myself. It certainly haven't popped up in any development proposals to city hall.

It is also within the city's plan to build a pedestrian bridge from Cambie Road to the BCIT campus, although there are obvious no near future plan for it yet. Clearly it makes more sense to build it when there are more population and destinations surrounding that area.

Here's the long term plans:
http://www.richmond.ca/__shared/asse...e_Arm16312.pdf

It's obviously many years from this vision, considering the area is still fill with warehouses/brownlands.

Bingo. Expect free shuttle service from Aberdeen Station and/or River Green.

Who has jurisdiction over the Sea Island side, YVR or Richmond?

YVR.

WRT pedestrian bridge access, if the City of Richmond paid for half (or more) of the cost, I'm sure YVR would step up and pay the rest; but as it stands, there are no plans to build one for the new outlet mall. If anyone wants to walk from Richmond to the outlet mall, the Dinsmore bridge actually connects right to the site. Unfortunately, only the south side of the bridge has a sidewalk and it ain't pedestrian friendly.

and for those who don't follow the retail and don't know about the outlet mall...

McArthurGlen chooses Vancouver

Canada has become the latest outlet hotspot, with Tanger Outlets, Simon Property Group and Cordish Company racing to open projects in the Toronto market. Now the largest European outlet-center developer is crossing the pond into Canada: London-based McArthurGlen Group, developer of 20 outlet centers in eight European countries, plans to open a 340,000-sf project in Vancouver.

Gary Bond, CEO of McArthurGlen European Development, told VRN/IOJ that MCG has an agreement with the Vancouver Airport Authority to develop McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Vancouver. The 30-acre site is off Russ Baker Way, adjacent to Vancouver International Airport, on Musqueam First Nation lands, owned by the Government of Canada and leased by VAA.

They can take dinsmore bridge. If they dont like it drive. I dont think its worth at this point paying for a bridge so a handful of people can go to a mall.

If it is a 30 acre site and they are only building 340,000 sq. ft. no one is going to be walking there, ever.

That is only 26% site coverage. I am seeing 22 acres of parking lots...

I think phesto is mistaken in saying that YVR has jurisdiction there. Richmond has a neighbourhood on that part of Sea Island, and builds and provides services there, and incorporates that area into its OCP. The specific parcel under discussion is Musqueam.
