Doesn't really matter which building you're in... whether an office tower, a residential tower in New West, or a mixed use elsewhere... if an elevator is out of service for moving or what-have-you, it will be SLOW.

Why would one design a buildings elevators to work at peak rate with an elevator down?! Exactly. No one would.

There is. They're just beginning to tear down the show suite/sales office for the first three towers and then moving on to tower 4. SalesLady (tm) said that it should be on the market sometime in September.

I have a friend that lives in the building, it's busy all the time. I don't know the exact # of units there, but it certainly looks like it should have 3 elevators. That's where they cheaped out.

There were only two in Azure 1. There are 10 suites per floor x 22 floors = 220 suites. Any Yaletown condo with that many suites would have three elevators.

Minor improvement to the Columbia facade:

http://www.bclocalnews.com/news/161455925.html

I was hoping they'd put up those historical photos on that strip, the way it was in the last render before they added the movie theatre. Or better yet, commission a mural. I guess a line from a crappy poem is better than nothing...

McGarva said he saw the building as a raw canvas that could tell many stories. He said the tented canopy structure in the plaza with all its “weird angles” is a homage to the tents of a century and a half ago. The red and grey panels spell out New Westminster in Morse code. There’s also a reference to Yifao, which was the Chinese name for New West. It meant second city, because Victoria was the first city they encountered upon their arrival and New Westminster the second.

“There’s a whole bunch of literary allusions [on the building]. It’s bold. It might not be to everyone’s tastes, but there’s a proud story to this building,” McGarva said.

Fresh Slice pizza lists a Plaza 88 location on their website. Can anybody confirm if this is open yet?

I walked into Pizza Garden last time I was there and everything looked terrible, walked right back out.

You are just surrounded by concrete at Plaza 88. There are some lighting effects, but it's not nearly enough (imo). Maybe a colour or art scheme for all that concrete to brighten things up. It's pretty gloomy... Columbia Street's cool though.

It's one of my favourite places to go
But yes, it does look more like a Duke Nukem 3D level than a cutting edge transit mall.

Went to see batman recently. First time in this theater. Not many people in the one we were in. Could have my choice of seats even after coming in late. Sharp picture and great sound.

Batman was good. Some pacing issues but otherwise held my attention. First movie Ina theater in at least a year. Maybe 2.

The Fresh Slice has been open since last weekend, upstairs in the main part by the eastern platform. In other Plaza 88 news, as of earlier today, the gate between the westbound skytrain platform and the upper level of that side of the mall is open. Right now, the only stores open on that level are Starbucks and a smoke shop whose (presumed due to how often he's outside it) staffer is indecent enough to smoke on the walkway right in front of it.

I live in Marinus (3rd tower) and believe there are 256 units in all for the two elevators. When a move occurs at a time that's remotely busy, the other elevator will take upwards of twenty minutes to make a round trip and be crammed past capacity before leaving the lobby. I find it amusing that the elevators drive renters to move out again, only aggravating the situation... less patient people look ready to commit murder.

I did find the Fresh Slice, and yes it is out of the way but worth it. I notice you can wander right on to the skytrain platform without much warning (fare paid zone, etc). I'm not sure how or where the new faregates will enter into this.

I visit a friend there and ya the elevator situation is unbelievable. Part of the problem is all of the levels of parking, so people on the first few floors can't just take the stairs as easily.

HAHAHAHAHAHA OMG! thats just crazy!! I thought the Spectrum towers were bad and they were 200ish units for 2 elevators .... your 25% more than that .... with more levels of parking too. .... ouuuccchhhhhhh.

gotta wonder if the developer will adopt the same 2 elevator stratagy for tower #4 ... or maybe just go with 1?

Thanks for the info. A friend of mine lives in one of the buildings. I would've considered moving there myself in the future possibly but not anymore.
