AAA photos (Astonishing Albuquerque Assortment)

I've amassed almost a years worth of Albuquerque photos and only now am I finally motivated enough to post them. This set defines randomness because there is no theme or focus; it is a just a dump for my photographic musings. Please enjoy.

Winter 2006

Taken from Rio Rancho, a suburb west of Albuquerque

The residential streets of Rio Rancho

Unusual juxtaposition

Downtown during the first snow of last year

Spring 2007

The new Hot Air Balloon Museum

Paseo del Norte: A major east-west route

Condos close to the river; they can be seen the downtown picture above

Uptown Albuquerque in the dead of the night

Summer 2007

View of both uptown and downtown from the foothills

The topography in this shot surprised me

AAA Baseball Stadium

The Rio Grande and the city that hugs it

(Fire damage + short skyline) x b&w= dreary shot

The new city hall in my hometown of Rio rancho, NM

Obligatory skyline distance shot

Road median, New Mexico style!

Downtown shot taken from the commuter train

Buses

One of like, maybe two residential "high" rises in Albuquerque; stupid wires

This building dominates our skyline

So much potential, but for now an eyesore

Part of the Old Town district of Albuquerque

More Old town

Museum

Another Museum

Part of the museum "district"

Federal Court House

Street level in downtown

Some lofts, but they are probably all vacant

Looking west from downtown; notice the extinct volcano

Looking south towards downtown; paltry pedestrian traffic for a weekday afternoon

Thanks for looking!

Cool photos. Albuquerque definately has a lot of potential especially as the city continues to grow. I really like the unique southwest flavor that is incorporated into some of the buildings there. I hope that as newer things are built (e.g., condos, etc) that they will continue to mesh it in so that it doesn't end up looking like any city USA. I'm also glad that there aren't a whole lot of palm trees like you'd find in other western/southwest cities. They would look a bit tacky there in my opinion and take away from the native vegetation that is beautiful in its own right.

I see similarities with New Mexico & New Brunswick... well, with Albuquerque & Moncton...

I'm always fiddling with comparisons between Tucson and Albuquerque. Both have major state universities, and are close to the same size. Sadly, Tucson is losing itself to sprawl and will probably never fulfill its potential. Albuquerque, on the other hand, benefits from a more politically "green" citizenry, and nearby Santa Fe really helps. Tucson is becoming a distant suburb of Phoenix, losing its own distinctiveness in that process. There are still "greens" in Tucson, but they're virtually impotent now.

At any rate, I'm happy to see Albuquerque in this forum. Old Town is a gem, and so is Nob Hill on the other side of downtown. The core needs more consistent infill, but it appears to be coming.

Great variety of photos, Stupac! That snowstorm was amazing, hopefully some good ol global warming will bring more of it. I moved away a couple months ago and I'm missing the 505 already. Also, that big "eyesore" downtown is awaiting tax credit approvals for a multi-story apartment project by Jonathon Rose Companies. Part of it should begin construction on more live-work units by Sean Gilligan sooner than later. Keep posting!

I've not had a chance to visit Albuquerque in about two years... thanks for sharing, especially from the perspective of two seasons.

Great pictures of a place I've not seem much of on this forum.

Also, I finally have someone to ask this question about Rio Rancho to:

What is with the area of the city called "Rio Rancho estates" on this map:

It looks like some huge masterplanned community, minus everything but the roads. Maybe the satellite imagery on google maps is out of date, but it shows nothing but road after empty road with no houses anywhere to be seen.

A closer look in satellite view:

What gives?

It's strange to me how they do that in Southwestern Metro areas. ^

Nice shots of a developing city. Nob Hill and Old Town are my favorite areas of town.
