That is awesome! Coming from San Diego, Downtown Portland continuously amazes me.

Apple is definitely moving its store into this space as well. I'm so glad to see that store get out of the basement of a mall, and onto the street!

And Joe's Burgers (never heard of it?) is moving into the former Famous Footwear space on 4th/Morrison. A liquor license application is posted in the door.

More info on Yardhouse, from this past August:

http://www.bizjournals.com/portland/...t-pioneer.html

Quote:
Initial reports suggested Yard House would occupy the former Todai Seafood Buffet space in the atrium section of the downtown shopping center. Todai closed without explanation in January. Its space has been leased to Dragon Gate, a restaurant.
Yard House said Thursday it will open at Pioneer Place in June, one of eight new restaurants it expects to open the coming year. The company typically operates restaurants of about 10,000 square feet. Pioneer Place officials said they are not authorized to comment on Yard House or where it will operate.

^That's where Punch Bowl is going in.

A Denver restaurateur will lease the entire third floor of downtown Portland’s Pioneer Place rotunda in one of the largest retail transactions of the year.

Seasoned Development LLC will open Punch Bowl Social, a bistro, bowling alley and entertainment destination one floor below the Regal Pioneer Place Stadium 6 theaters.
I thought Yard House was going to share the former Saks space with Apple too, but maybe they are the unnamed restaurant going into the former J. Jill space?

The former? Geez, I need to get out more! I've never been much of a mall shopper. The only thing I go to Pioneer mall for is the Apple store. I didn't realize J. Jill was gone. I'd love to see that space become a restaurant! Especially with all of their windows and corner entrance.

From the picture it looks as though there is plenty of space available for the Yardhouse for the Saks space located directly under the tower portion. If you look closely you can see the street level Saks display windows....they go to the corner of the building to the entrance to the bank and escalator down to the food court....right?

I think much of that space was probably the stockrooms, etc. for Saks...

After Christmas 2oh1, it seems like half the shops closed. Louis Vuitton is now expanding, Tumi Luggage is coming in. There's a lot going on in those non pedestrian friendly bunker buildings that should dramatically reshape the downtown shopping experience, turning the mall from the inside to the outside.

Any idea what's going on on Yamhill between SW Park and 10th?

Art Media (Blik?) has moved.
Finnegan's has moved.
Crafty Wonderland moved one door down on 10th, away from their corner spot on Yamhill.

The entire block between Park & 10th along Yamhill across the street from The Real Mother Goose is empty. It's sad. Art Media had been there for ages, and Finnegan's along with Little Finnegan's had been there for a long time too. Even Crafty Wonderland, which took over the old Little Finnegan's spot has moved (though only one door down on 10th). It's weird that the entire length of the block along Yamhill became empty at the same time. Unless there's a reason?

Fenouil space leased to Davis Street Tavern team
Portland Business Journal by Wendy Culverwell , Business Journal staff writer
Date: Friday, March 2, 2012, 11:16am PST

Jamison, serving “classic new American cuisine,” will open in the former Fenouil space overlooking the Pearl District’s Jamison Park.

Craig Sweitzer of Urban Works Real Estate reports that the Davis Street Tavern team of Christopher Handford and Blake Smith leased the 220-seat Fenouil space and will renovate it as their second restaurant.

The new jamison, 900 N.W. 11th St., opens in May. Its menu will emphasize locally farmed ingredients served in a fine dining atmosphere. Urban Works brokered the deal.

The Dussin Group, operators of the Old Spaghetti Factory chain, closed Fenouil nearly a year ago.

Ross moving to the former Borders space. I wonder who we take the Ross spot?

That's really good news. Their current space feels so dingy. It's been falling apart for years. Remember when they had escalators? Though they're only moving a few blocks, the Borders space has so much better of a location.

I too wonder what will become of the current Ross space once they move.

It'll generate lots of foot traffic and that's a very good thing.

Office Depot downtown is consolidating into their street-level space, and subleasing the basement to T.J. Maxx.

So strange. Why wouldn't TJ Maxx move into the space Ross is vacating? I wonder if they signed the lease before the Ross deal was announced and are now kicking themselves. So strange. And Office Depot consolidating into only their fist floor space? Did they acquire more space there? If not, it's going to be tiny.

It looks as though (from the above rendering) that there is plenty of space for the Yard House to take the remaining space of Saks..
