Well the parking meters all can be paid for via phone and it links up to a specific plate number so in a way that is already in place. I actually love the service, it automatically sends you a text when you have 5 minutes left in your spot and you can refill your minutes remotely.

Wait, they have this now? Last time I parked in a pay zone, they had a phone number which you could call and a bunch of menus you had to go through. I just gave up on looking for a spot downtown and got a monthly pass to a garage instead (company pays for it).

The block between Georgia and Dunsmuir was fenced off at some point today, so I guess they will start ripping it up soon. Also looks as though they are cutting through the pavement that remains on the block between Georgia and Robson this afternoon.

They are ripping up the area outside London Drugs.
The area outside H&M, etc. is being sawcut - lots of whitish wet concrete dust on the roadway.

Big long tents are being erected on Granville on the Commodore and Vogue bocks for the JUNO Awards block party. The newspaper said there would be street party concerts there. Each of the tree stumps on those blocks has been strategically covered with a bright orange traffic pylon.

Just a lil' update...
We're at the end of week 12 of the "3-4 week" long closure of the section between Drake and Davie. This one and the next 2 sections up to Nelson are scheduled to be re-opened to traffic by the end of March, early next week.

Hmm just read over the COV's invitation to tender documents, it almost looks like they dropped the ball, road construction is well underway and they have only issued the tenders today for both the poles and the lights, very short deadline to deliver. Will make it impossible for most manufacturers to be able to make that deadline. Hopefully it's not a form of tampering. (never seen it locally but it's happened elsewhere before, sometimes tenders are issued at the last second, no one can deliver except for one company...)
Sure if that's the case here we will be hearing a lot of complaining by those left out.
Anyways the led lighting sounds really interesting and they should be able to do quite a bit with it, surprised they are going RGB and not just white.

I noticed today that they had cut some trees down (new cuts) on the new section they are working on between Georgia and Dunsmuir. It looked like they cut maybe 3 or 4 trees closer to Georgia.

It made me wonder, where are they NOT cutting the trees down? I had thought they were keeping all the trees from Georgia down to the Harbour. Those trees are all appear to be in good shape, and some are quite tall and look healthy). I was surprised to see they had cut more down so recently.

So what is the latest plan for which trees to keep and which to replace? Sorry if this has been answered before, but I'm curious if the plan has changed again.

That's cool... hopefully they'll all be hooked up to a computer. Maybe the lights will go pink for Valentine's Day, green on St. Paddy's, red/white on Canada Day, orange/black on Hallowe'en, red/green on Christmas and maybe some rolling (down the street) psychedelic pattern on New Years.

Hmm... I wonder what black LEDs would look like.

It appears that the trees closes to Georgia were scheduled to be felled.

Well I guess making white things glow eerily would be appropriate lighting for Halloween.

I am getting excited about this idea of the changing colour LEDs! I too hope they use the lights to add themes to days. Green on St. Patrick Day, Red and Green during December, cray effects on New Years and other celebrations, Red and White on Canada day, etc...

haha, i just see duener said pretty much the same thing.

Thanks Hed Kandi,

Yep, those are the ones that were gone.

Very cool - sorry I didn't realize there was such a detailed drawing earlier.
