Unpretty. Some Philly Grit.

A few pics of Philly that the tourism folks won't be using.

The ugliest part of my city looks worse and it's half the size of Philly.

But cool to see.

These photos are magnificently ghetto!

I can just picture the Griswalds (National Lampoons) driving through here after getting lost. "Alright kids, roll em up!".

Actually, that was in St. Louis, but I'm sure it'd work here too.

Mrherodotus, great job showing us the other side of urban America!

Good set of pics..too bad they are so small as seems to be the increasing trend here on the forum. Makes it hard for us mature forumers to see them!

Unfortunately, most of these were taken a few years back when 2GB memory cards were just a dream. Thus, I had to shoot small in order to be able to take a lot of pics on a 32 meg card.

Have you ever been to Philadelphia? Not that it's anything to boast about, but Vancouver's worst part has got absolutely nothing on Philly.

Awesome shots again, hero! This one reminds me so much of a view I used to see everyday in eastern New Orleans (pre-Katrina) looking west from the Desire/Press Park area towards downtown... the similarity of the view is uncanny, with the buildings downtown being different, of course. The garbage was amazing... a new burned out car everyday and a few new dead pit bulls with the rest of the trash on the street.

Hey I live only 200 feet from this building!!!

Its being rehabbed right now!

While they are taking there sweetttttttttt time with it (the owner wanted to demo it but its under historic certification as one of the oldest hotels in America or something) it looks much better now.

I'm so happy as Marlborough st (esp riverside) is lovely with everthing from Federal styles to Greystones.

Keep the series going Hero.

I had the privelege of seeing some of this unpretty Philly grit, as I spent the entire afternoon driving around on Sunday (I'm in Atlantic City for a trade show). I also was lucky enough to cruise through downtown Camden just for fun.

So sad to see these incredible streetscapes and detailed old buildings fall into such poor condition.

Awesome photo set and awesome revitalization before-and-afters. Grit on the west coast just doesn't look like that so it's nice (I use that word loosely) to see.
