Possible Forum Expansion

One thing we've been doing here at SSP is creating localized forums for individual cities.

The California section already has localized forums but it's one single forum. Typical sub-forums for the cities look something like this...
  • Downtown Developments
  • Individual Suburb Developments
  • Transportation & Infrastructure
  • City Photos
  • Urban Issues, Urban Design Issues and Heritage Issues
  • Business, the Economy and Politics
  • Arts, Culture, Dining, Recreation and Entertainment
  • General Discussion

This has the potential to better organize material posted here as well as encourage newcomers to register and post. Another thing is that the sticky threads would be done away with, which makes it easier for lurkers to follow and further encourage them to register and post.

Thoughts?

I hate how it's set up for the NW, then Seattle and Portland have their own little areas off in space. To much and not needed.

How it is now is perfect.

Not sure what to think. I, like most, am a creature of habit and dislike change so I guess a half assed vote for the status quo.

I agree with ltsmotorsport, the Northwest forum is just to spread out.
I prefer this over an expantion, please leave it like this.

The main reason for introducing this setup in the first place was to make city forums more local friendly, with the hopes of attracting many times over the number of forumers that currently exist now.

Of course some cities would be interested in experimenting with this change, and others would not.

We would know alot more after the current experiments have had time to see how they go from now on.

Having so many sub-forums seems great from an organizational point, but I don't think having so many just for Sacramento seems necessary.

If the intent is strictly to better organize information, then I don't think any
change is neccesssary. I find it very easy to access the few threads I view
regularly.

But if there is any chance the change will improve the stability of the site,
then I'm all for it. The forum has been down quite a bit lately, and I almost
had to get back to work... almost.

I'm with Tower... I can't believe how clean my desk is. You ruined my productivity numbers and my reputation as a goobernment employee!

The Sacto Forums, at least from my perspective, seem to be well organized already. The change to the major city forum format a few months ago was perfect.

Well as I said the main reason why this concept was introduced in the forum was for the specific purpose of it being a trigger to prompt many new local users to participate, with the potential of increasing the number of users by a factor of 5-10 times.

Another idea is to give each city it's own URL and main page for articles and stuff.

Although this is a new thing brought here, and is not yet proven. Perhaps at a later time if there's a proven track record of this consistently working in other cities it's introduced in then perhaps this can be revisited here again.

If you'd like to make a change to this forum, then please follow the system.

Produce a Forum Impact Report (FIR) and give us several weeks to review
and get back to you on whether or not you may proceed. During this time,
any caution flags that we encounter will be reviewed by our Forum Design
Review Board. Since there has been a significant amount of time since this
forum's inception, our Forum Preservation Staff will need to have a look
and address any potential aspects that must be preserved and adapted into
the new forum.

Finally, if you plan on touching any forums relating to California, we will
also be needing your California Internet Quality Act (CIQA) details. Where
again, we will be requiring a few to several weeks to review and comment.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

classic tower! Don't forget we will need to hold numerous town hall meetings to discuss the merits until everyone either loses hope or interest. Hopefully Mohana won't get wind of the forum expansion. Sensing the opportunity to make a buck, he might buy up all the bandwidth space on the server and lease the space to internet businesses spaming everyone with offers of viagra, nude pictures of Angelina Jolie, or "free" xbox 360's..

Looks like they wanna merge all the sub forums together.

I for one, like it the way it is now. The Mods want to merge them together
because the SF and LA sections are dead.

Please vote in California Forum section here:
