I checked the website, it is Bow Valley Square. I love Cora's if they have good staff who know what they are doing.

I've heard good things about Cora's. My girlfriend and her family go there on occasion.

dammit....... you all found out! lol. Very reasonable prices. Im not sure if the smoothy is worth 4.00 but it is good. A great downtown option! Oh and when you go, you may be quite shocked at how the interior of bow valley square looks now......it takes precedent from the core as far as the cutting and geometry goes.

It's where the old Royal Duke used to be. While I realize breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it is a sin to close down a perfectly fine pub and replace it with a breakfast place. A brightly coloured breakfast place at that.

I was at an Italian wine tasting at Zin on the old brewery grounds on Friday night.
The food was catered by Sugo and I was somewhat disappointed. Pasta kept in warming trays becomes glue-like after awhile, doesn't Sugo know that? The 2 best items were a great bean salad and herbed butter for the baguettes.
The wines were great. I stuck to trying all the whites, although I would have had more variety to sample with the reds.
Does anyone know if Zin is where the aquarium used to be? It seems odd that when Calgary was a quarter of the size it is now, that it had an aquarium.
This Wednesday evening, Zin is hosting a cookbook launch for Chatelaine magazine with free wine (I think Italian) and Rouge is supplying the food.

Cafe Koi at 1011 1 St SW is a cool place with a sort of gaysian vibe. The service was ok, but the food was only so-so.
I have heard their lunch time sandwiches are good.

My favourite Chinese restaurant, Peking Dragon (19 X 4 SW), got a brown paint job on the facade this summer (looks drab), but no more unappealing peeling pink!

Not to nitpick, but it's "Zyn." And man, what a beer selection. I bought three different kinds of Ayinger Weiße there yesterday- Ur Weiße, Bräuweiße and Oktoberfest.

^^I've been looking forward to a trip to Zyn for a while. They've come a LONG way since they launched their web service.

I'm fucking stranded in Phoenix for the rest of the day. Fortunately, it appears I going to have a chance to eat what many have described as the best pizza in the country, at Pizzeria Bianco. I'll let you know later. Otherwise, Phoenix looks like a big pile of suck.
Don't fly US Air.

nevermind, it's closed on sunday. Bomb this place.

Zyn is always worth driving a little further for. Love the beer selection as Rusty mentioned.

Hey folks,

I have some business associates in town from NYC, that I'd like to treat to a nice dinner. My co-worker suggested Saltlik, but we have one person coming who's a vegetarian, and I feel that it's a little stereotypical... My suggestion is to go to Brava Bistro since it's always been good to me, but I haven't been anywhere for years - having two young children mean the fanciest we get is White Spot these days.

Got any suggestions for a business dinner, about 12 people?

Dan

EDIT: Apparently, the guests are all set on Steak Steak Steak. Since this is the case, any better steaks in town than Saltlik?

The best steak I've ever had anywhere (including Peter Luger's in NYC) is Vintage Chophouse on 11th ave. The atmosphere is very nice (higher end, but not too stuffy), so its' a great place to take visitors as well as business associates. The meat itself was phenomenal. There might be better steak out there, but I've yet to have it.

I Second Vintage. Only 2 steak experiences I agree with downtown, Vintage and Caesars. I'm not being crazy picky, there are just a lot of poor cuts of meat and poorer grilling skills. This is coming from a SK farm boy.

I suggest the Bear's Den in Bearspaw. It's quite a drive but totally worth it! Check out their website!

http://www.bears-den.ca/

Keep in mind the mandatory tip applied on groups of over 8.

I will third Vintage... never had a bad meal there and it's a great atmosphere for a business dinner.

The other suggestion I would make would be Charcut. The food is phenomenal and the space itself is one of the better dining rooms in Calgary (something about Vintage is a little under-whelming).

Couldn't go wrong with either.

What about Open Range on Edmonton Trail? I haven't been there yet, been meaning to, but someone on the forums I recall has, and they offer buffalo if I recall the posting correctly ....

Open Range is a good option, but in my mind, doesn't exactly scream "let's impress clients from NYC"...

River Cafe @ Prince's Island Park has a distinctively local cuisine menu (and not just steak)... I'd definitely recommend it for outoftowners. I can't think of anything comparable!

My fave steak is at Ruth's Chris Steak House, but it's not a local experience...

Although I've never been I always seem to hear that the Chef's Table at Kensington Riverside Inn is a good choice.
