I know most builders have cameras on light poles in the developing communities out in the 'burbs...probably to catch thieves stealing construction & home building materials more than vandals but I wonder if this is something that could come in handy...may not stop this altogether but a deterrent of some sorts...

There was "graffiti" on the Bowery's sign that said something like, "something capitalist fascists".
So, we've reached a point where building homes for people to live in, in an area and manner that doesn't hard the environment, is 'fascist capitalism', whatever that is? Are all private property rights fascist, too?

Jesus. I think some of those anti-gentrification protesters from Vancouver have shown up in Ottawa.

Quote:
While I agree that vandalizing youths are probably the most likely source of these latest incidents, there has been a higher rate of condo sales offices vandalized in the Little Italy area compared to other neighbourhoods (at least to my knowledge anyhow) Going back 2 years ago, the front windows of the Soho Champagne office were broken, the Hom sales office was vandalized, and shortly after the front of the Claridge Icon sales office was coated with paint (looked like someone threw paint-filled balloons at it). Now this year in a two week span, both the Soho Champagne and Italia offices are targets.
Having once attended a community Association meeting (and read many articles about others), there's always the white, middle-aged resident who still wants to Take The Fight To The Man.

Essentially, the addition of a new building to their neighbourhood becomes the Vietnam War, Berkeley campus, circa 1968.

Instead of young soldiers marching off to their deaths, their biggest concern in life has become their view, property values, noise, and the need for an unchanging, museum-like protection of their immediate surroundings. There's a sign on someone's property on Scott street that you can see if you're taking the transitway near Bayview station that has some Marxist-anarchist sentiment on it relating to development.

Hmmm...

Not sure which house, but's very close to the bridge over Bayview road.

Either way, this is all speculation - who knows who's behind it. Still, hard to resist the possibility of a NIMBY arsonist running around.

Somehow I am not surprised they scrapped the wavy balconies... too ambitious for Ottawa. The new design barely has any balconies...lame.

Still prefer it to their Centretown proposal.

Considering that the other major proposals in the area have the wavy balcony design, it might be a good thing they went back to square.

It's just meh...

I mean all the Soho buildings are so boring! Look at Soho Parkdale, Soho Lisgar now this one... If they do present something different (like the wavy balconies of Soho Italia or the present design of Soho Centretown), they quickly change the design back to boring square box with wall to wall window and black brick.

They are right when they say "hotel inspired" as their buildings hardly have any balconies.

I am currently enjoying lunch on my 100 sq ft balcony at soho lisgar. Half of units here have large balconies.

In my books, 100 sq feet is small.

If you look at their Toronto projects they actually hardly have any balconies - The back side of both Soho Lisgar and Parkway have balconies - which is roughly 50%. At Soho Champagne, almost all the condos have balconies or terraces - and despite what one of the previous posters said, I find the Soho Champagne design to look quite nice (definitely an improvement over Parkway and Lisgar).

I'm not a huge fan of Soho Italia's latest look (I preferred the wavy balconies), but I'm not offended by it. Plus it's hard to judge it's look based on one rendering.

What book is that? 100 sq. ft. balcony is definitely nothing to scoff at.

It's probably 20' x 5' I would assume - what more do you need?
