Nice pictures. This should accelerate soon I guess. An article in ANS the other day mentioned that they'll be putting up steel for the top floors in the autumn.

I might visit this summer. Hopefully there will be a couple floors to see of the library plus a construction site on Clyde Street. I haven't been back in almost two years, so the Spring Garden Road area should feel pretty different.

I've always liked that row of houses along Queen Street south of Clyde. The mix of heritage housing styles is one of the most interesting characteristics of Halifax neighbourhoods.

The second shot shows how the Sister Sites are basically the last missing piece for that area. Most of the stuff around those parking lots is in pretty good shape, and when they're filled in it will pull everything together more. In a couple of years this will be a very attractive spot.

Several of those houses have been gutted and redone.. they look nice on the inside (I think it's the yellow/blue duplex and the one to the right of it as well.. pale blue). Some of the foundations still look fairly unstable though.

Here's a nice photo from the Shipfax blog that shows the library crane.

I wonder how noticeable the library will be from this angle when complete. One height mentioned on the library website is 27 meters. The post-bonus HbD height map for that block shows 28 m. That's about the same height as an 8 storey residential building, which sounds pretty plausible for the library given its floor count and higher ceilings.

27 meters would not stand out downtown, but you can look at the curved roof on the Medjuck building addition to see the higher elevation of the library lot. I think the library's upper floors might actually be pretty prominent in the skyline. Given their distinctive style they'll be an interesting addition.

My impression from an article a while back was that the building's upper floors will have a steel frame. I am not sure if the whole structure will be steel or if they are only using it for parts like the cantilevered "living room" area at the top. If they bring in large steel beams we might see some quick and dramatic progress.

The people standing on the Queen Street sidewalk really give a sense of the scale of this building, which is quite large by Halifax standards. The ceilings of some of the floors and the building footprint are much larger than normal.

As always, can't wait for them to get started on the Sister Sites.
