When we last left off, we had departed Freeport, Bahamas. The next morning we arrived in Nassau, Bahamas - population about 250K. Nassau is the largest city in the Bahamas and the capitol.
View from the cruise ship:
The historic British Colonial Hilton, featured in the Bond films "Thunderball" and "Never Say Never Again":
The Atlantis resort (which we didn't get to see up close):
Resorts and hotels of the Cable Beach area (3 miles west of the port):
Just across the bay from the port, this home has frontage on both sides of Paradise Island:
The main government building:
We hopped off the ship, I tried to get all 855 feet in one shot but oh well:
Most stores were closed for Christmas and for preparation for the Junkanoo parade:
The other side of the British Colonial Hilton:
En route to Cable Beach:
No egg nog this Christmas for me!
After a few hours of basking in the sun and frolicking in the water, we took the jitney bus (75 cents!) back to the ship:
Near the port is a tightly-packed area of shops:
Atlantis again:
I absolutely love their logo:
I decided to get some braids in my hair:
Just kidding!
Another ship in port - note the submergables:
Later that evening was the beginning of the Junkanoo festival and parade
http://www.junkanoo.com.
We were tired and considered skipping it - someone said the parade was mostly handcrafted costumes - we were thinking chintzy wicker - how wrong we were. The craziness goes until dawn, we made it till 2:30am:
The next day, we caught another glimpse of Freeport:
And other enjoyable sights onboard
Last sunset of the cruise:
And while I love Cleveland, it was rather sobering to see this on our flight back into the 216:
Hope you enjoyed!
