Charlotte, NC

At the end of my recent trip to Tennessee, I decided to fly out of Charlotte and see the city. A friend of mine in the area was nice enough to show me around (and take the light rail with me for the first time). I was surprised at how active downtown/uptown was with people, especially late into the night. Charlotte has a lot of nice, new development going on, but, having been in Nashville, not as much in the way of historic buildings. At least what I saw in downtown. Great city though!

This one reminds me of a similar building in Honolulu

And the clouds parted...

My new favorite building

McCity looking good here.

It seems as if the recent boom was especially kind to Charlotte. But do people live there ?

Looks like the marine layer was in earlier that day Thanks for taking the time to upload all these photos to share with us! Your skills with a camera are consistently top notch.

Thanks! Yes, the weather was pretty crazy...at least for a guy from California. Driving from Tennessee I hit a thunderstorm that was pouring rain so hard, I could barely see out my windshield with the wipers on high. Then, as soon as I hit Charlotte, the rain shut off like a valve and the sun came out before sunset. The next morning I thought I was back in back in SF with the gray "marine layer", then it burned off to beautiful blue skies by the afternoon!

Really nice stuff.

You did a LOT of walking.

This shot kicks tail. That's a perspective you don't see much:

Fantastic shots as always my friend! I love this city and all the new developments, they already had enough historic gems in their core and neighborhoods. They now have a spectacular skyline to go along with it.

Great job you did out there!! Charlotte has quite a modern skyline. I can only imagine what it will look like in about 10-15 years along with the city's population!!

Nice clean looking city.

I heard nothing but nice things about Charlotte. A friend of mine I haven't spoken to since the last time I was in New York was considering selling his business and moving there, I know he made several visits scouting out the place. Now I wonder if he had.

Another friend in Los Angeles, I also haven't spoken to in a while said he wanted to move there as well, and was very fond of this city.

As one gets older, and even for those just starting out. Cities like these are becoming more enticing. NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago of course are exciting cities. But at the same time they are older, worned, and much more grittier, and on top of it all more expensive. So I can see how a person could like more tame, slower pace, yet not boring. Plus get more for you money, this sound good to me, many others.

Still I love LA, and would miss the excitement of living here. Again nice looking city, thanks for sharing. I'd certainly would consider it, should an opportunity arise.

Nice photos of buildings! I haven't been to Charlotte, I'd like to visit someday. One question though...where's everybody?

Thanks for all the great comments!

As a far as "where's everybody"? Don't use my pictures as a gauge. I usually avoid people in my photography and it was a Sunday morning when I was walking around the residential neighborhoods. But, there were a lot of people in downtown Saturday night, late into the night which surprised me, and again Sunday afternoon. So, when most downtowns are devoid of people on weekends, it was really impressive that Charlotte stays quite active with people.

Great job!! Those are beautiful pics of the city. I miss living in Charlotte, there was so much development going on there. I'm looking forward to see how the city grows within the next few years with the completion of the transit lines, which will include more light rail, streetcar, commuter rail, and bus rapid transit.
