Kohl’s gives CHOP half-a-million

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is getting a $500,000 check from Kohl’s today to support the injury prevent program the department store chain sponsors at the West Philadelphia pediatric hospital.
The check will be presented during a 1-year birthday celebration of the Kohl's Safety Center at CHOP.
The center, which CHOP says is the only one of its kind in Pennsylvania, sells low-cost safety products to parents and provides instruction and training on how to use them correctly.
Products sold at the center include child safety seats; security gates; locks for door knobs, toilet, kitchen appliances and cabinet; outlet covers; window blind and cord windups; and fire-escape ladders.
Unintentional injuries — most of which occur in the home — are the leading cause of death for U.S. children, with toddlers younger than age 4 accounting for more than half of all fatal incidents, according to CHOP.
Kohl’s previously contributed more than $1.2 million to CHOP during the past three years from proceeds raised through its “Kohl’s Cares for Kids program,” which sells $5 plush toys and children’s books at its stores.
