Show of height values in database

Why are height values in the database shown in feet and not in metres, when the database is browsed by a non logged-in user?
As most countries use metres, the values should be shown for non-registrated users in metres.

The database has always been meters for me when I'm not logged in?

For me, it suddenly changed to feet maybe a year ago. I could change it back to meters but that only help when I'm logged in
