Aids give no reason for mayor's sudden annoucement at City Hall

Jake Rupert, The Ottawa Citizen

Published: Thursday, March 13, 2008
Mayor Larry O'Brien has called a hastily arranged press conference for 5:45 p.m.
Officials in the mayor's office would not comment on the reason for the event or if it relates to the criminal charges Mr. O'Brien faces in an alleged bribery scheme related to the 2006 municipal election.

Mr. O'Brien is being prosecuted on charges of attempted bribery and purported influence-peddling in an alleged scheme to bolster his chances of winning the 2006 municipal election.

The Citizen will have full coverage of the press conference minutes after it is completed.

Too bad he got involved in this. The business sector actually encouraged behind the door deals.

I think he really turned over during the last 6 months. A big change from a year ago IMO. If he continue to support new projects like he's doing right now, I may even vote for him next time (well if he's not in prison).

It's funny that the Citizen had breaking news on a story they were already working on. Whoa - who are their contacts!?
