this is clearly the wild fantastical vision of some architect and not a real proposal with a real development team backing it. as such, i moving this thread to the buildings and architecture thread because this is not a bona fide proposal for a real or serious project.

and i'd have to agree with the other two posters, whatever the hell that thing is supposed to be, it's god-awful ugly.

It looks like one of those things that activate or have something rise out of it when certain astronomical phenomena are at play.

Well this is certainly a retractible proposal. Something like this would get so much resistance from the community, it would probably ruin the architect for life. It almost looks like something out of a sci-fi movie.

not to worry,
Oakland is notoriously successful at making sure tall proposals never see the light of day.

Looks like some hack ripped off Paolo Soleri. In a really, really bad way.

Anyways, I'm sure the average 3-year old could come up with a better design than this.

Anyways, this would be a good reason not to attend the U of O.

Without the crystal part at the bottom it's kind of cool.

Did somebody use Photoshop to superimpose a Dubai proposal into the Oakland skyline?

As a sci-fi building, it looks cool. However, it also looks completely out of place in Oakland. Or almost anywhere else on earth.

I am sorry people, but I liked. Seems a E.T. Spine but ok, of course in Dubai. The crystal star at botom seems an angel with a huge spine one-eye at top, but I think the earth deserves more structures like this... but please do not hit me.

Wow!

Hey everyone.

I've been coming on this site for about 3 or 4 years now. I'm not an architect or developer or anything, just a regular guy who has always had an interest and appreciation for good buildings. I generally just come here to see what's new in the world and what may or may not get built. I've never really felt the need to comment on anything......... until I saw this......

Good God Damn that's an ugly building!!!! It looks like a mosquito had sex with an old hippies spine. Then the spine took acid and sat in a cave for a few thousand years and stalagmites grew from the base. After that a gypsy placed her magic crystal ball and the bottom and....presto!!!!.. out pops this hideous monstrosity.

I know there is no way in hell this would ever get built but DAMN!
