In the 60's, they seemed to like everything concrete...

We are so lucky that the province and the feds back then did not have such a good relationship as now. According to yesterday's sun that was the real reason why none of these freeway plans took off, the feds backed out at the last minute. Btw don't go to Canada.com apparently it is one of 100s of legit sites that are infected with that new silent banker trojan virus.

the one thing i do like is having a tunnel as a 3rd crossing over to the north shore, although not like how they planned in the above renderings.

Some of the pictures in the sun were incredible, at the extreme they would basically have turned downtown into a giant interchange, with a huge trench cutting it right down the middle.

That would put a huge scar into the skyline from the North Shore. Glad we can't fit it now. Too bad back then they didn't think "hey, we could use a second Lions Gate Bridge because these lanes are too narrow and in 40 years it will be a pain in the ass. And why don't we fit it for rapid transit while we're at it, we just might need it."
