I think I stumbled onto a gold mine. For a fan of post modern architecture, finding all of these is horribly bittersweet. I don't live in Dallas (I've never even been there) but I think that Dallas has some of the best designed skyscrapers that have never been built.

I like the Lincoln Complex. It's probably getting built somewhere in China now.

The Las Colinas towers got built, other than the one which is partially off the picture on the right.

I'm glad Fountain Place ended up only being one tower. It's much more iconic the way it is and I feel that two would be too overwhelming. The City Place complex would have been cool, but it's easy to see why it didn't get built as planned.

Don't know if this has been posted, but see how Frank L. Wright's Rogers Lacy Hotel may have looked inside the tower on this video link. It is believed that Frank L. Wright introduced the first Hotel Tower Atrium Lobby for this Dallas proposal in 1946.

Here is a rarely seen skyscraper announcement for Dallas, from the 80's Downtown building boom, that hasn't been shown anywhere.

It is a sleek design of 47 stories with underground garage for 500 cars. Its location would have been wonderful for a tall building to be located, south of Commerce Street.

I believe 912 Commerce would be the surface parking lot today that is immediately south of Bank of America tower. Talk about a dynamic relationship it could have created by being next to and immediately south of the tallest skyscraper in Dallas.

This building would still today look very nice on the skyline.

This is just one clipping from my scrapbook of skyscraper announcements for Dallas. I'll see what other unique announcements I can find in there to post later.

I'm glad some of those weren't built, but yeah, so many of those were nice. There's some more projects in Dallas that never happened I remember, that weren't posted here. I don't have those renderings anymore though. They're trapped on a fried hard drive.

It is one that somehow didn't get captured by many people, if anyone but me!

I cut the announcement out of the paper and put it in my scrapbook so at least it is preserved for posterity.

I think it is a cool design and was another one of those Dallas building boom 80's designs that I wish could have made it to reality because it would have definitely helped pull growth south of Commerce that hasn't really happened until just recently with the Omni Hotel project being built.

Here is an extremely unique mid-rise design proposed for Dallas' Uptown District from 1985.

It would have been a 15 story highrise built at the corner of McKinney and Maple, across from the landmark Crescent Court complex.

Extremely avant-garde in its design, the "Flatiron" building as it was known would still to this day be a landmark structure with its incredibly unique cantilevered design.

This is another cool, unique and never seen proposed Dallas' highrise building from the '80's Dallas building boom that I have preserved in my scrapbook from that period.

The Turtle Creek development Frank Gehry - 1985

The Turtle Creek Development, Dallas, TX. Unbuilt. Mixed-use complex with 3 towers, 8 townhouses, with 4 levels of parking underground. An oval, glass-skinned office building plus another gridded office tower and a similar residential condominium building stacked atop a 100-room hotel.

A few years ago, I spent a few days in each city, Dallas and Houston, and I don't why the skyline of Dallas is so underwhelming and blah, compared to Houston's. Yes, Founatin Place is outstanding, love it, but the rest of it?

Perhaps it's my love of buildings with curves, and Houston has an abundance of them!
