Was that previously a parking lot or a grassy area?
I thought they were tearing down the old CDV and putting these there?

That is the grassy area where the old ROTC hangars/RV parking/Thach Circle used to be. They also took away a substatial amount of what was C Zone parking back there. It goes from Wire Road all the way to the back of Wallace/Nichols Center. The area that used to be the village has been paved(at least parts of it). It is now C Zone parking and will be used for RV parking in the fall.

Thanks for the pics, spooky!

Tim, check out the PDF version of the Auburn campus map for the location and layout of the Village Student Housing (number 154):

Awesome pictures! I ought to get down there soon, it's not that far.
How close is the university campus from downtown Auburn?

about 10 feet, the downtown borders the north (Magnolia Ave) and east(College St) of the campus. with Toomers Corner (where these two streets intersect) being the epicenter
of Auburn. See the previous pics of rolling Toomers Corner after Another Auburn victory.

Thanks! Hope you make it down to Auburn for a visit someday. You'll enjoy the city and the campus.

In this small aerial photo (wish there was a larger version), Toomer's Corner is in the lower right corner. This is where Downtown Auburn and Auburn University converge.

In this aerial view (looking towards the south), Downtown Auburn is on the left, and the campus of Auburn University is outlined in orange. What can't be seen is the College of Veterinary Medicine's campus which lies beyond the upper right portion of this image and the sprawling commercial development between Auburn and Opelika to the east (beyond the left side of the photo).

I had uncles play at AU and UA and didn't go to school at either - so I never got into the fervor. However, I am involved in agriculture and have always been impressed by Auburn's Ag research as well as the great landscaping of the campus (showing off the school's background as an ag school). Great pics!

When I was a student at Auburn in the late 80's, there were a lot of trees in Samford Park (the area in front of Samford Hall and adjacent historic buildings). However, most of those trees were destroyed when Hurricane Opal passed through in 1995. Here are some older photos of Samford Hall showing some of the trees that were lost:

That is a nice tour. I think some Auburn folks are doing well at the Olympics, also ?

As a random bit of trivia, my mother's uncle came in second for the Auburn president job back in the 1940s.

I haven't really had a chance to tour Auburn though I pass by on my yearly trip to Mobile. I've had a chance to visit the campuses in Tuscaloosa and Gainesville and have been very impressed. They are certainly on the level of, if not above, the campuses of Duke and UNC here in North Carolina. I'd also say the campuses of Georgia and Old Miss are high on my list to visit.
