Hamilton Type Festival

A month-long celebration of type and the way it interacts with our lives. Featuring workshops, demonstrations, walking tours, exhibitions and screenings that showcase type, signs, printmaking, communication and design.

The kick off for the Hamilton Type Festival was Friday night at Mixed Media, 174 James St. N. with the opening of the Ghost Signs of Hamilton exhibition. Running until June 6, you have the entire month to place a bid on some amazing pieces of art showcasing the fading advertisments on brick walls that can be found around town.

Signs of all kinds line our main streets flashing, pointing and marking the businesses that have long vanished, yet their creative identities remain. Please join us on Sunday, May 25 as we walk from one end of the downtown to the other in search of signs, designs and communication from the past. From neon to hand painted, amateur to professional, Pagoda Chop Suey to Zack’s Furniture - the signs of downtown Hamiton are an opportunity to see our city’s illustrated design past. Tour starts at 1 p.m. in front of Mixed Media, 174 James Street North and ends at Hamilton History+HERitage for coffee and discussion. For more details please call 905.529.2323
